What's new

Newly packaged Aqua Velva?

I knew it was coming . . . but it's still depressing to actually see the plastic bottles. I just ran out of my last glass-bottled Aqua Velva and need to re-stock. I saw the new plastic bottles at the store but didn't buy anything until I heard from you people on B&B. My question is this: Did they do anything to the formulation to accommodate the new plastic container? Or is it essentially the same stuff we've all grown to love over the past years? Thanks for any feedback.

I have a plastic bottle. The stuff inside is no different than the stuff they put into the glass bottle.

How is it they can get 7oz of fluid into the glass bottles and the same 7oz into the smaller plastic ones?

Good to know it's still the same stuff. I acquired a little funnel for exactly this situation. I am also keeping my last glass bottle. I will be doing some serious funneling in the near future. Isn't it disgusting to see how they hype the concept of "unbreakable bottle" to justify this cynical commercial move to plastic? Who cares about unbreakable plastic? We all want the classic real experience of decanting from glass . . . but they don't care. I'll be curious to see if their sales go down.:mad3:

You have a good idea on decanting any new Aqua Velva into your old glass bottle. The plastic bottles are bad. I usually end up with more in the sink than my hand when I'm trying to pour some out. :thumbdown

Ir's a very small funnel I found among my mother-in-law's stuff when we moved her. She was going to throw it out. I anticipated a need for it and just kept it in my shave den until it would be needed. The stem fits nicely into the opening in the glass Aqua Velva jar.

A sad day indeed. I noticed the AV on sale a few weeks ago and I was concerned something might be amiss, so I bought their last bottle... just because. Now I'm glad I did.

The funnel that comes with a flask works very well for this. If you can find one, get it. You may be able to find just the flask funnel at like Bed, Bath & Beyond. I know they sell flasks and stuff.

I plan on decanting any new AV into my glass bottle, I also picked up a plastic bottle for my dopp kit.

In Canada, the plastic is the same exterior size as the outgoing glass.

Plastic has more in it.

200ml in glass, 235ml in plastic, same price.

Check out these two threads. Good reading!

AV thread 2

There was a rush to buy up as many glass AV bottles as possible. Among the threads you will find such notable posts as this from Topgumby:

Today at lunch I pulled my hat down low, flipped up my collar and headed for the wrong side of the tracks.

I went to WalMart.

The greeter looked passed me as if I didn't exist, and I wondered if the geezer knew that my time was about up, that I was down to half a small bottle of the blue stuff. I saw the two days of gray growth on his weathered cheeks, and for a moment I saw my future self as if in a dark mirror - no shave, no splash, no menthol. Only stubble, razorburn and darkness.

I shook my head, clenched my teeth and kept walking.

I saw people pushing carts, some smiling, and I knew that they were blissfully unaware that the devil had made a deal to save on shipping, and things weren't going to be the same ever again. A kid in a shopping cart was crying his eyes out.

Maybe he got it, I thought.

Looking straight ahead, I made for the shaving section, and there it was. Flanked by cheap Proctor and Gamble boxes masquerading as Old Spice on one side, and the lush green glow of Brut on the other.

A smoking hole where the Aqua Velva should have been.

Stunned, I looked around to see if the same shady character who'd beaten me to the punch at the drugstore was hanging around to gloat when I found the yawning maw where that glass goodness was supposed to be, but there was only a lady looking at a pegboard full of Fusions.

My mind reeled. Two trips, no Aqua Velva. I shuddered, as if an ice blue wind of emptiness was blowing right through me. I turned to leave, pulled out a couple bucks and picked out a pack of ASR Personna DE blades. I handed the dough and the blades to the lady who was looking at the Fusions, and she gave me a bewildered look.

"Take 'em, doll-face, he'll thank you for it" I said, and when she blushed and said she was picking out a razor for herself, I told her "Then he'll thank you even more." I grimly pulled at the brim of my hat and turned away.

"What do you put these in?" she called after me, but I was already out of her life and on the trail of the glass with class, the real Ice Blue.

Maybe tomorrow. Maybe Target. Maybe.

Epic.:thumbup::lol:

In one of the other AV threads somebody mentioned getting a condiment squeeze bottle (the ones used for ketchup and mustard) from Bed Bath & Beyond to decant the plastic bottle into then you can easily use the pointed tip to insert into the glass bottle and squeeze until the glass bottle is full. Much easier and quicker than a funnel.
