What's new

Newby shaving question.

Hey all!

I've got a peculiar dilemma, and I'm not sure if anyone else has had it before as well.
I've been using straight and DE razors for as long as I've been shaving, (I wanted to start on them.) which has been only a few years now.

I have learned how to get a good lather on my Mama Bear soap, and how to use olive oil as my soap as well. I've gotten my razors to the appropriate sharpness with a waterstone and strop, and pass the hanging hair tests no problem. I've tried hot water shaves, cold water shaves, and ice water shaves.

Yet... I have the tiniest layer of peach fuzz which refuses to die. I've tried disposable razors as well, and everything I've tried yields no luck.

It's all on my upper lip, stopping above the corners of my mouth where you'll find the smoothest shave in the world.

So, has anyone else had this problem? Do I need to practice my angles better, do you figure? Perhaps my hair there is just too... wispy? Should I just roll with it until my facial hair develops and thickens further? (My shaves are not often at all. Sadly, at this point in my life, I have not been gifted with a luxurious mustache.)

Thanks!
(Mods, this is my first post. If it is in the wrong section, please kick it to whichever corner it belongs.)

Welcome aboard B&B. Hope you enjoy the ride. I have never had this problem, so I can't give any useful advice, but I am confident that someone here can help. Good luck.

Hey, thanks BlackBard! I figure my mistake is something easily remedied by someone who knows what they're doing, as I am a self-taught shaver, who only needs to shave once in a while. Not a lot of life experience there, haha!

I stretch my top lip out to make it smooth and drag my DE razor from midline out and top downwards at the same time, which shaves that area well. Since my lip border is curled under if I do it right, the blade touches all of the skin under my nose near the upper lip, except for the tiny bit right in the "divot".

Welcome to B&B. Enjoy the BBS section of your face while it lasts. 'Cause, eventually, that particular piece of facial real estate may end up being the coarsest, most difficult-to-shave spot on your whole face.

You stated that you have only been shaving in any form for a few years. And you called the parts you couldn't shave off 'peach fuzz' maybe your beard just isn't tough enough for the blade to catch and cut yet. I'm sure over time as your beard 'develops' and becomes coarser you shouldn't have the problem anymore
