Newbie Post: Anyone know where Dorcos are made?

Hi Everyone,

Ok...this is my first post on Badger and blade so please be nice!

I've been shaving the DE way for about 6 weeks now and can honestly say I'm hooked. I have no problem setting my alarm 15 minutes early in a morning to make time for my daily shave! I've bought a sample pack of blades, Merkur 34C, Proraso/Omega Boar brush and Prorasso Red shave cream - everything's going great.

Anyway, introductions over. In my pack of blades I have some Dorco 301s which I'm still to try. After a bit of research I've been unable to find where exactly these blades are made. It may be the geek in me but 'made in Korea' simply isn't enough. From my understanding DE blades aren't promoted because they aren't 'hip' and 'exciting' and I guess, don't make as much profit as the 4+ cartridge razor blades. This makes me wonder whether these blades are actually made in North Korea (?!) - potentially in the Kaesong shared economic zone. This is just a guess, but seeing as I can't find any information readily available, my instinct is that is where they are made. The blades just seem so cheap to buy and are coming from the other side of the world from a well developed country (South Korea). :confused1.

Additionally, has anyone else realised that the majority of good razor blades come from countries which aren't as democratic/value human rights as much the West? Astra (Russia), Shark (Egypt), Personna (Israel). Perhaps the extra cost of Japanese feathers factors in the better working conditions etc as well as the obvious sharpness?

Thoughts?

Most things Americans buy come from 3rd world countries because it means higher profit margins for corporations.

I doubt you'd be able to find out for sure which Korea Dorcos come from, unless you had someone with first hand knowledge.

The Dorco factory? Down the road about two blocks, parking in back.

Headquarters is in Seoul. 301's are my 2nd favorite blade after Ladas but Dorco's are easier to get and come with a nifty used blade holder on the bottom.

Welcome to B&B!

On the wiki we have a little information about Dorco, from which I can say that they appear to have factories in Seoul (Gaebong-dong) and Mexico. But you could try to contact Dorco through their web site to ask for details. If you find out anything interesting, please share it.

At the same time, we should all keep in mind that politics are meant to stay in the barber shop.
