Newbie in need of advice

Hello all,

I just bought this Straight razor in an antique store and paid $ 10.00 for it.

I' completely new to straight razor and i need some suggestions in regard to it.

This straight razor needs work because is not sharp and I cannot shave it with it.

My question is: is it worth it to have someone hone it? Is this a decent straight razor for a beginner?

I'm located in California and if it is worth it to have someone hone it for me do you guys know of anyone able to do it?

Please advise.

Thank you in advance.

It's a good buy, just get it honed and go! You could ask the honemeister to dull that spike point, just to have no worries while learning.

Would definitely have someone else hone it on the first razor. Lots of other stuff you'll need as well as practice sessions to figure out if this is right for you. Follow the Wikis, straights really aren't too hard once you've got your face and beard growth direction down.
