Newbie Hair Question

I am Brand New to B&B and have already benefited tremendously from advice from the community about wet shaving.

However, im also having some issues with my hair. All of the literature about the different products is more confusing then informing and i realize everyone is different and i will probably have to try a few products before i find one that works.

What i want is a product that i dont even notice i put it. i dont want greasy or stiff hair, all i want is better hold throughout the day. I am getting ready to place another order with t+h so i figured i might as well give one of their products whirl first. but if anyone has advise to the contrary please feel free to tell me.

Also, i have thick, short to medium length, non greasy hair

these are the 3 products im considering now. [i am having a very hard time understanding which would be best to start with]
C.A.R. Cream no Oil
Ultimate Comfort Hair Pomade
C.A.R. Lotion

Note: i also posted this in the wet shave newbie forum but i thought i would get a better response here.

Thanks Again, Yall are great

Pomade gives the greasy look as far as I know so you might want to avoid that. Thats all the help I can provide though unfortunately. I am using American Crew Fibre and am pretty happy with it.

What I use is a wax that has medium hold and no shine. If you go to any hairdresser or beauty shop you should be able to ask for a no-shine hair wax. I take a very small amount and work it into my damp hair and then style it the way I usually keep my hair and it holds up nicely without getting stiff or shiny!

Groom & Clean, you can get it just about anywhere. Its not greasy what so ever, actually makes your hair feel really clean. It has a light hold, it basically just gives you a lot of control to your hair so you can style it and it wont go all over the place.

Or, get a basically an kind of water soluable pomade, let it dry then just recomb it and it becomes soft and matte, and lasts all day, and no grease.

I use the wax that American Crew puts out, I don't find it to make my hair greasy, but it does the job and keeps my hair where I want it.

I use a little bit of Vitallis on my hair once I get out of the shower. It holds well and does not look greasy. My second choice is Groom and Clean, but that tends to make my hair feel more like I have put something on it instead of having my hair feel natural. My hair is very dry and, although once very thick and curly, is thinning a bit.

I have been using various hair stuff for like the last 15 years, and I can probably count on one hand the number of them that I have bought more than once. Do the math... that's a lot of products. Our hair sounds pretty similar. I would add coarse to the description of mine. One of the biggest things that I have discovered over the years is that with many products the amount of shine can be controlled by the amount of water in your hair when they're applied. Here are some comments and suggestions...

Groom & Clean - amazing value, definitely gives your hair some shine but more of a healthy shine than the wet look you would get from most pomades, hold is pretty mild, can be a bit greasy to the touch
Jack Black Sleek Finish Texture Cream - one of the only ones I've purchased multiple times, which speaks volumes
Kiehl's Creative Cream Wax - probably the driest-looking product I've found (almost too dry), but still holds well, not pliable
Aveda - great products, but the scent is strong (good earthy scent, just really strong)
Redken - highly recommend, AMAZING scent (it is strong), Maneuver is probably my best guess for what you're looking for

Generally speaking, you want to avoid anything labeled "pomade" if you don't want shine.

Woody's has a line of cream, wax and what I use....the water based pomade. It won't actually make your hair look greasy, but you'll get a lot of shine, and hair that can be reworked later in the day by adding a bit of water to your hair. (Doubtful you'll need to.) It's really malleable as well, so it won't make your hair sticky to touch.

Look for a matte clay... it's the exact thing your looking for. I believe Crew makes some but I use an off brand that works plenty well for me. Though, depending on the length of your hair, etc. you may need a little hairspray for it to stay up all day.

Matte Clay is the way to go. It looks really natural and as if there is no product in your hair.
