What's new

Newbie Graduation

I have been DE shaving for a little while now and I feel like I have a good handle on things. I will post a picture of my shave den I have accumulated over the past two months. Now it's time to graduate from a newbie, I need to upgrade my brush and I would also like to buy a newly manufactured razor. What are your suggestions on a first quality brush and a new razor?

Thanks
Rob

For a brush I would recommend checking out Rudy Vey's stuff on the vendor forum.

For a modern razor you could go with an EJ DE89, maybe.

Looks like you are graduating with a masters degree in Gillette razors!

The Merkur 34c gets a lot of praise around here. I have my eye on the 37c slant.

Edwin Jagger DJ89, Chatsworth , Bulbous ? All mild.
Muhle R89 mild. R41 aggressive.
Merkurs as mentioned above ?

Depends what you want in terms of performance or style from your razor too.
Do you want a mild razor or a razor with a bit more say so ?

+1 here, even in regards to the slant. Santa?

Looks like you have graduated with honours and a PhD. Awesome have den.

Great collection! Why do you need a modern one? Too many choices out there, but the Merkur 34C is very nice.
Brush: too many to choose from. What is your price range?

How about a Whipped Dog badger brush?
For the price,I think I am going to get a whipped Dog brush. I thought about straights but I'm not ready yet. As for a new razor, I'm looking for something in the middle, not the most aggressive and not too mild.

Thanks for the help!
Rob

p.s. you can't have enough razors! Especially when most of them are $5 and under.

If you want something "modern" and completely different from your vintage razors, you could try the Merkur Futur. I love mine!
