New Year's Eve Shave

Hey folks New Year's Eve is creeping up on us. I was wondering what setup will you be using if any? I am going to a dinner event with dancing afterwards. I plan on skipping my usual morning shave. I will shave a few hours before the event. My set up will be:

Merkur Progress @4
Vintage Gillette Razor Blade NOS circa 70's ish
Edwin Jagger Badger Brush (Best)
Cella Soap
Proraso Splash
Proraso Aftershave Balm

Travelling so will be using what I have with me.

Simpson Major brush
Gillette Nacet blade
Merkur Travel Razor
TOBS Rose SC
Witchhazel to finish

If at home, probably would have used -

eShave Silvertip
Mergress
Wilkinson White blade
It's hot so Proraso

- Aaron

I hadn't even given it a thought before this post, but now here it is:-

EJ89L razor
Feather blade
My new Duke 3 brush
Cella, Crema Sapone Extra Extra Purissima(what else?)
Alum
Floid Blue
AdP Colonia Assoluta

Unless I change my mind, that is!

David

9/16 Joseph Rodgers & Sons Full Hollow grind
e-shave cucumber cream (nice stuff)
e-shave finest Badger
Alum
e-shave cucumber after shave
(What can I say e-shave is a nice product)

No need to commit myself exactly, but to end 2010 on a positive note, and to start the New Year off right, it will have to be something reliable for my shaves on December 31 and January 1.

Pre-Shave: A hot shower.
Razor: Injector, probably type I2 or O. Maybe a Gem 1912.
Brush: Tweezerman badger or Omega boar.
Soap: Williams, Vintage Old Spice, or D.R. Harris Almond
Post Shave: Cold water rinse.

Anything could go wrong, but the chances of a bad shave with any of the above are minimal.

1958 Gillette Toggle
Feather blade
C&E Badger travel brush (face lather)
Irisch Moos shaving stick
CO Bigelow Bay Rum ASB
Royall Mandarin AS

This isn't set in stone, but most likely:

Fatboy (9 on first pass, 5 on second)
Gillette Platinum
EJ pure badger brush
Tabac stick or Godrej Deluxe Lather
Old Spice (Shulton formula, from India) or Nivea Cool Kick fluid and Gucci Pour Homme EDT

My usual winter combo of a '52 SS and Red IP blade. Brush and cream will be Christmas presents from my wife, a Simpson Colonel with D.R. Harris Lavender. AS will be Musgo Real Splash that is coming this week instead of my usual Dickinson's Witch Hazel. Hadn't thought about it before, but now I'm looking forward to it.

Derby Blade
Crabtree and evelyn nomad
Feather Strainless razor
Witch hazel

or

Gillete Fusion power with 5 blades. (I repeat 5 blades) 1, 2 3, 4, 5 blades ! Did I mention the blades vibrate like a love toy ?
Gillete Fusion sensitive skin gel out of a can.

I have not decided yet

I will be working on the 31st so I will shave in the morning.

my setup will be something like this:
-Some straight in my collection (I don't know which one yet...)
-Simms brush
-MG5 Japanese AS (supposed to be 36C in Melbourne on Friday so the menthol will help)
-Cella!

Man you guys down under have some nice hot temps. I would love to trade the weather I have here.

I probably won't bother with shaving on New Year's Eve, since I'm not going out. I never go out on NYE, except for twice in my life and I had a lousy time. So I always stay home.

Now New Year's Day is something different. I'm lucky to have that Saturday off from work, and I'll probably be heading out to my favorite nightclub in the early evening.

I haven't decided on the shave yet, but since its a New Year, I'm thinking of trying something new. It might be La Toja stick, it might be Erasmic stick, it might be Palmolive stick. All of these came into my shave-den during 2010 and as yet remain untouched.

If I can't decide ... there's always good ol' Tabac.

More than likely my set up will be:

Euro Palmolive shave stick
Zenith Best badger
Dorco ST 301
NDC Superspeed
Spanish Floid

I've spent the last few weeks being sick, so shaving has been a bit hit and miss. Hopefully I'll be ok by NYE, and will use the following New Years Day:

Straight or Kamisori (my first attempt at either!)
Proraso cream
Merkur Silvertip brush
Proraso AS

The my straight razor for the shave will be my 5/8 C.V. Heljestrand. That's the first razor I honed myself not knowing the condition of the edge (how big the work would be). What I thought would be average turned out to be a great shaver!

Now, Christmas in Melbourne. It's not the best picture but Melbourne 2 weeks ago, see the Christmas stars in the corner!

I'm spending my New Years Eve with my lovely wife and our three dogs at home. Hopefully there will be a limited number of fire crackers going off, for the sake of the dogs' nerves.

My shave will probably be

Merkur Futur w. Merkur Platinum blade
Almond oil as preshave prep
Edwin Jagger sandalwood soap

three pass

finish off with cold water rinse
then walnut oil as after shave, for the nice smell and smoothness it gives my face.

Hoping for a kiss at midnight.
