What's new

New type of Rooneys

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe those have all been here for a while. Of course, let me know if I am mistaken.

The Vintage Blade page you reference shows Rooney brushes with the Style 3 handle, in Size 1 (the smallest). As you will note, the faux tortoise shell handle with Super Silvertip Badger is out of stock. They told me Rooney's source for that handle material is no longer available, leaving them searching for an alternate source. They expect to be restocked no earlier than late Spring. I have the Pure Badger version of the 3/1 with that faux tortoise shell handle and like it very much, but then I use mostly soap and like a scrubby brush. They still have that in stock. See my profile for a less than professional picture.

I have a black 3/1 "special" in pure badger. Got it from vintage blades. Great all around brush fro 40 bucks. It does have a little prickliness to it, but I actually like that. As for the logo, it is more scriptic, but I perfer the plain 'ROONEY'. Also, the logo on my special has a scratch in it, almost like it is stamped on in a cheaper fashion than the other Rooney's. Anyone else have logo issues with their Rooney Specials?

I've moaned about this company before....

Why on earth don't they stock any Supers? And why are the Silvertips so expensive?

I've paid less for a 3/1 from here:

It's listed as Silvertip, yet I received Super! Not the first time either. So these UK vendors are pretty useless, in my opinion. They don't even stock the full range of hair grades, or even list the ones they do carry properly.

If only we had a Vintage Blades or Classic Shaving equivalent over here...

Going on my experience with T&H Rooney Silvertips, they badge all the Silvertips on the brush as "Super Badger". It also says that on the blurb at the top of the page you linked to.

Rooney grades are: Pure, Best, Genuine ST, Super ST, and Finest. If they sent you Super, you got a Silvertip.

Is there anyone who is able to compare the old type of Rooneys to the new bulb shaped ones? Is there an apparent difference? Is the density the same as before?

How old are we talking? Every brush has variations even if the spec is the same. So 2 brushes of the same knot size could vary a bit in density, loft and shape. They're handmade, so tolerances won't be as tight as machine made products.

I recently returned my T&H 1/2 as it was shedding. Not much, but enough to annoy. The 1st one was noticeably fan shaped, and the replacement was definitely a bulb. Not only that ii was also a bit smaller in loft, but this doesn't bother me at all. I bought the original one just before xmas and the brushes were from the same batch.
