Hi folks,
This is my first non-introductory post of B&B, so please forgive me if this is posted in the incorrect sub forum.
I regular several local antique marts in my area, and always keep an eye out for old shaving gear. Recently I found an old strop and JA Henckels straight razor. I haven't been able to find much information on either, but I do have some concerns with each.
With the strop, I haven't been able to find much information on the manufacturer, so I have no clue if it is a quality piece or not. Also, there are some scratches/scuffs on the leather side, but it all seems to be quite smooth. So, is this a usable strop, or just a decorative piece?
With the razor, the main concern I have is with what appears to be some shallow but extensive pitting at the tip of the cutting edge on both sides of the blade. Is this something that could be honed out? If so, is the blade worth the trouble? On the left side of the blade, the tang is marked:
JD HENCKELS.TWIN WORKS
SOLINGEN.GERMANY
And on the right side of the tang it's marked:
GRAEF & SCHMIDT
...if that is of any importance. I'll attach a few pictures, I apologize in advance for their quality.
Any information on either item would be most appreciated! Thanks!
