New Standard BIN on Ebay

Wonder if the seller realizes what a bad deal this actually is.

Hmmm. Wrong case. Broken handle. Sure, that's worth $142.00 Thank goodness for the education this site provides or someone could possibly overpay by a trifle. Oh, and I just noticed the item condition is described as "New".

I suspect that Seller is a fan of PT Barnum.

I recently sent a comment about Barnum to a similarly ludicrous BIN Seller, it was a Tech in a NEW box if Memory serves... and he had it listed as 1920's. Still not as high ($49.95 IIRC), but still...

But a buyer shouldn't let a high BIN price deter them if there is a "Make Offer" button. I recently bought this blade case with a best offer of $5, the BIN was $15.

That thing isn't even worth the shipping unless you have some idea how to fix these razors.

I was able to fix an old type handle that was cracked the entire length with JB Weld. Not too pretty, but it works. If this handle has no crack, I suppose you could carefully JB Weld it together, and the head would then be affixed is it should be. You would have to be careful not to let excess ooze out though, since it is pretty hard to clean off of an item.

Ok, so with all the bitching we do about some eBay sellers, I have to bring this ones behavior to your attention. I emailed him a question commenting on his high seller rating, and the fact that I was sure calling the item "New" was an oversight. He responded politely, and asked me what case was the right one. I sent him a picture of a New Standard case, and gave him info on getting adequate date info, etc...

We talked about the handle, it seems he pulled it off accidentally while cleaning it. He even checked the handle with a loup and found a hairline crack.

I just got an email from him, thanking me for all my help, and for politely responding to his listing with constructive criticism. Apparently he had received a message shortly after mine that he considered rude. He also told me that he was ending the listing, realized the price was high, and is sending me the case for my bar handled new for my trouble.

Pays to be nice, and not act like a razor snob douchebag sometimes.

Good for you, Phil. I often correct sellers when I think they just don't know what they're selling and in most cases get an appreciative answer. The best are normally from the ladies. In a few cases it's ended up by exchanging 3 or 4 friendly messages not necessarily related to the listing. It can be fun. But I never got a freebie from one. You must have been especially nice. Good for you.

Cool story.

I agree. Best to take the high road and be polite. After asking a seller a question about a razors's date code, I added that her listing it as "New in Box" was probably not correct since the packaging of the razor had clearly been opened (which is why she could check the date code). She admitted to know nothing about the right terminology and certainly nothing about razors. After a few exchanges, she reports she has the same exact razor (also partially opened) and offers it to me for a fraction of the cost. I bought it at a slightly higher price in appreciation and then had an anniversary razor I had been looking for. There are nice and honest folks out there, despite the many duds.

Well done, sir.

Very cool ending to the story! Of course, anyone who's seen the thread on Phil's restoration of a New Standard case knows he probably could have made her a brand new one out of a coat hanger, a tin can, a shoe and some old underwear . Okay, I'm exaggerating.
But not by much!

. . . I sent him a picture of a New Standard case, and gave him info on getting adequate date info, etc. . .

Is there a handy picture resource online that shows which cases go with what razors? At least one of my purchases came with a case which was pretty clearly the wrong one ("Gold Tech" with a New Gillette), but I was interested in the razor itself, and the price seemed fairly low.
