New SS

Got a new SS for a family member as a gift but I noticed the handle looks dirty and one of the safety bars has brassing, but looks like a chip in the plating or is it pitting? I don't know the difference. Any ideas on how to remedy or is replating my only option?

You can either not worry to much about it, as it won't affect the shave, or have it professionally replated. Be sure to let the recipient know that it's been replated though.

Knurled surfaces are difficult to keep pristine. If you haven't already, you can try scrubbing the handle with rubbing acohol or a bathroom tile cleaner to see if it makes any change in that area.

There's no easy solution for the flaw on the safety bar, but as mentioned above, it won't affect the shave. It's not in an area that will be in serious contact with the face.

I just don't know if its pitting it or not...if its pitting doesnt that mean it's like corroded and the bar has a "pothole" so to speak?

Doesn't matter. It's not going to spread, and the pothole's not on the part of the street where you drive, so to speak.

It's probably a chip. Assuming the razor doesn't sit neglected in a highly corrosive atmsophere, it's not going to visibly change.

after close inspection I see that it's not pitted, however, I put it up for sale on the BST forum
