New Rooney brush - problem?

I purchased my first Rooney 3/1 brush over the internet and it arrived today. I was disappointed to see that the "Rooney" inscription on the brush looks as though it is partially rubbed off - see image. Is this typical/normal? Am I being overly critical?

Actually you're not alone. Mine appears as Pooney instead of Rooney. I've also seen some of the Heritage models with sections of the black lettering missing.

And then there's Simpsons which are known for their markings coming off. Guys dope on a layer of clear nail polish to protect them. No excuse for either of these situations in my view.

My heritage has the lettering in the back wearing off as well...though the "Rooney" is perfect in the front...I don't think it's a decal...but don't quote me on that...

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's fine. The hair and handle look to be in great shape, so I would keep it. That said, I think you have a good case for replacement.

Weird, I've had a few bits of letters come off, but never that bad on a brand new brush. Ask for a replacement.

Mine has a little bit of the "n" missing.
not too much that i'm concerned.
still.... everytime I look at it ....

If the lettering were to come off months from now, that's life. But, for you to receive a new brush in that condition is not acceptable. The failed to inspect it before it went out. That is the dealers fault.

You would think that the higher end shaving brush companies would be prouder of their products and apply a permanent or an etched/stamped name, logo, product number and date on their brushes.

I have several EJ brushes, one Simpson "Eshan," a Truefit and Hill (3/1) and a Rooney (3/1). The EJ printing looks very good, but I'm not sure for longevity.

The Simpson is stamped X2L, Best Badger and then "COLONEL"stamped on the opposit side. The letter filling is already falling out. The Simpson decal looks cheap and detracts form a $115 brush.

The Truefit and Hill/Rooney have similar lettering and will probable wear off with use.

My Omega boar brushes seem have a higher quality printing/logo on them.

I have an Erskine, re-knotted, finest badger that has a filled stamping on the bottem. "SET IN RUBBER, ERSKINE, STERILIZED, 98"

At the very least the high grade brush identification should be ledgable for 50 or 60 years, like the Erskine. It would be pleasant to contemplate someone using my old brushes 60 years from now, stateing with pride, "It's a Truefit and Hill, Made in England, 2009, model 3/1, with silvertip badger"

Oh Well! I tend to be anal about some things. I will quit whining and go stroke by brushes until my perfectionistic rant subsides.

Well... rather uncharacteristically of me, I decided to use it this morning, which probably means that I can't return it. I was so looking forward to receiving it and just couldn't face having to deal with the vendor, ship it back, argue about shipping costs etc. I figured that it wasn't such an expensive item that I couldn't just accept it as is although I am worried that every time I look at it...

And it's a nice brush - definitely the perfect size for me as a soap-user and let's just hope that it stops shedding hairs. It's a much better size than my large TOBS super badger brush - the lettering on which remains in pristine condition........................

Depending on the vendor, you might still be able to exchange it. One of the vendors who frequents this site is well know for his wonderful attention to clients; perhaps whomever you bought it from would be responsive...

Definitely hope it quits losing hairs. If it doesn't stop that after a couple shaves, you've got a lemon. If the lettering doesn't bother you, I'd keep it. I don't know why, but I've recently developed the thinking that nothing is perfect. Those little imperfections make the things you own unique, and if they don't pose a functional problem, they're not a bother to me. That said, if you don't like the look of it, which is understandable, and you bought it from a reputable dealer, they should replace it hassle free.
