The old knot was loose so I just started twisting and pulling, this is what I found:

Looks like someone had the knot fall out in the middle of a shave, and got angry about it.
With a typical boar loft I suppose the worst outcome would be a little rust in the lather.

Holy moly! That's a little scary huh? Gotta figure that knot came out on someone and their quick fix was a nail through the knot. Was epoxy/adhesive not readily available back then?

Geez, that is some backbone. How long you think to break in that bad boy. Almost looks like a defective 2 band
