What's new

New Heritage?

Howdy all. I've been behaving and have had my SBAD under control with the help of medication and cognitive-behavioral therapy. However, I'm feeling a flare comin on!

My understanding is that the current Rooney Heritage is 1) less dense and 2) very soft but not that gel feeling? Also, Lee is putting some of this stuff in his brushes? Can anyone provide some clarification on whats up? I had a 2XL but my big gripe was that it was too dense and lather hogged... A less dense 2xl might be veddy veddy niiice!

TIA.
Bill

I have the older 3xl and I would not characterize it as a lather hog. Seems to pick up soap well and releases it very easily. It surprises me every time I use it. And yes it is VERY dense.

That pic looks different than the "gel-tip" batch --- more yellowed at the tips, kind of like Rooney Finest.

I have three Heritage brushes, and my favorite tips are my 1XL from the original release. The newest one is my 2XL, and while it's great, it isn't the same.

The box says "Stubby, Size 3xl (large), HR017"

I bought it as a Heritage stubby.

The bet way to tell if your brush has old versus new heritage hair is if it feels crusty when dry. It's a very distinct feeling. If it doesn't feel crusty it's is the newer stuff. I've said this in other threads and will say it again. The older hair had that distinctive gel-like softness to it on the face. The XL line is my favorite. If I had one critique it would be the flow through. I adressed the less than stellar flow through by using more product.

The newer hair which my jade 2XL has doesn't dry crusty, and loses some of the gel-like feel. There are hints of it for me but not as much as the older stuff. There is incredible improvement on flow through despite having similar density. I think Rooney hit the mark with the newer hair but I could see how others miss the older.

As far as your question about if Lee's advertised heritage hair is the same as Rooney, I have no clue. Even though Lee is very connected to Rooney and could be getting his hair from them I would have a hard time knowing if his heritage is same as Rooneys.

Cannot agree more. My new 2xl jade has nice flow through, great backbone, and soft enough tips (although not as soft as my Thater). All in all a super face lathering brush.

Yep, my exact experience as well, with exactly the same brush models. I just wish I would have ordered the 2XL first as I prefer the larger size.

Jose, this is interesting as it is exactly opposite of my situation. I ordered my Rooney 1XL literally the first day they were available for sale on the Vintage Blades website. The tips are unreal soft and gel-like for two-band, the only thing that is softer (in my brush line up) is a ridiculously soft Thaeter three-band brush. I also have a later vintage 2XL (although I have no way to prove the age/run/batch), which does not have the gel-like tips of my 1XL. The 2XL dries crusty, whereas the 1XL does not dry crusty.

Very interesting indeed Jeremy. I've come to accept that batch to batch differences are going to lead us to conclude different things at times. The two of use could very well be accurate in our assessments. What you call new I call old and vise versa. You've got 2 years on me as far as membership goes. Your first batch of Rooney 1XL was mostly likely before I joined B&B. I picked up what was new batch to you and old to me batch of Heritage hair. The newer stuff of the past year might be more likely the days when you purchased your 1XL.

The one thing we can all agree on is that Rooney does make some spectacular brushes. The XL line is my favorite.
