What's new

New Feather SS/DE

A couple of months ago I bought one of those new Feather Stainless Steel DE razors and talked a friend of mine into getting one too. I seemed to mild for me and I sold it. My friend brought his to me Tuesday and asked if I could sell his. He said it shaved to close and made is face burn. He told me anything over a hundred I could keep. I cleaned it up, had it ready to sell and thought, Hmmm, this don't sound right, i'm going to try it out. WOW ! ! mine didn't shave like this one, shaved again Friday and today, face was slick as a gut, no burn or irritation. How can two of the same razors shave so much diffrent. Needless to say I took him a Hundred today. I now have another Feather SS/DE

Did you use the same blade in each? Is there any other explanation for the different shaves?

I ask because my Feather has the tightest tolerances of any razor I have ever seen, even tighter than my Pils.

In the one I sold I tried Personna Reds, 7 o'clock yellows, wilkinsons, and feathers. The feathers gave the best shave but still not close as I like so I tried Feathers in his and the diffrence was amazing from one razor to the next. I don't know why, but it is and they should be the same, guess they may have got machined a little diffrent from one batch to another.

I'd be happy to lend to the first one back for a head to head comparison. I agree with you initial assessment of the first one, too mild for me to get a close shave, I'm curious to see what you'd get with the first one now.

Very interesting - I will look forward to the face-off!

Then again, my initial impression was that the Feather SS was too mild, as well. I used it now and then, but mostly stuck to the DE89L. However, the DE89L broke yesterday and I gave the Feather SS a try. Maybe I was holding it wrong, but it did an amazing job. I'm going to give it another try before I go out to dinner tonight.

I guess it just goes to show you that you should never get rid of something after just one try. Maybe put it away for awhile, and then give it another shot after your technique has improved, usually one will find that they may have acted in haste that first time. I've found that its always best to compare after some time off and then a revisit. :thumbup1:

Were they both ordered from the same place around the same time? Could be different production lots.

Great advice!

We got them about 3 weeks apart, I got mine at classicshave, not sure about him, I'm thinking he said Dee's or Lee's or something or something like that. I'll ask when I see him next week.

I definately do not find the Feather to be too mild, its right on the money for me. I believe Feather got the blade angle bang on, this is a great keeper for me.

I would guess you had the blade angle a bit steep, it can be hard to judge due to the feather giving less feedback than some.
