Yes, I know that this cream is rebadged Proraso Green available through Bath & Body Works here in the U.S. and Canada, but I have just recently discovered it upon returning to DE wet shaving after a more than a thirty-year hiatus.
After all, my small shaving world revolved around C&E Sweet Almond for the past ten years. Since that particular shaving cream/soap is now apparently discontinued, I became encouraged to try something else, while stockpiling my remaining C&E Almond for a special treat.
I have been using my 1957 C-4 Gillette Tech (year and quarter of my birth) with a Derby Extra blade with this cream for the past week.
What is really "cool" and endearing is that my three-year old grandson watched me go through the entire shaving ritual this morning. From hot, moist towel to badger to cream to blade he saw it all and was fascinated throughout the entire process.
I reminded him that he will be shaving one day when he becomes a young man, and that this is the best way to do it whether it be DE, SE or Str8.
Anyway, I have rarely enjoyed such a close, comfortable and refreshing shave! And this after only two N-S passes! Granted, I am not a Neanderthal with a wire beard.
I did not find the Bigelow (Proraso) to be at all offensive or overpowering with regards to eucalyptus/camphor/mentholatum. Definitely not anywhere near Vick's VapoRub. After a cold water splash to close the pores I applied some eight-year old "Body Shoppe For Men" aloe vera gel after shave to seal the bargain. Nothing like a "face freeze", but more like a cool, refreshing sensation.
Fourteen hours later, while looking in the mirror, I still look presentable. No lumps, bumps nor red irritation.
A damn good shave! I'll keep this stuff in my rotation, along with Musgo Real, for the summertime. I won't even get into the Earthscience Azulene brushless cream at this point, except to say that I am not at all disappointed.
I think I'll buy a few more large tubes at my local Claremore, Oklahoma "Hicksville" Bath & Body Works while they still have a "buy one, get the second for 50% off" sale.
I can hardly wait to try it with my 1957 Super Speed and my soon to be arriving Star (Gem) Model 1912 SE once I get the hang of my Tech.
Warmest Regards,
David
