New coffee setup. Aero+Hario=Goodness

I finally decided it was time to break away from my Keurig coffee maker. I have just not been happy with it for some time. My wife likes it, so it isn't going anywhere, but it is time for me to move on.

I decided to give the Aeropress a try. I have never used anything other than a cheap drip pot or a Keurig. I am green to this whole experience.

I purchased the Aeropress based on a fellow members recommendation. I only make one cup in the morning before heading to work. My wife is not up for hours, so making a pot is a waste.

So today I purchased a few items from a local kitchen wares shop. I bought an Aeropress with paper filters, a new porcelain lined kettle and a Hario ceramic hand grinder. I picked up a bag of Peet's Whole Bean "House Blend" Coffee.

I decided to make a mug when I got home. I followed the standard method for grinding and pressing.

All I can say is, "Wow. Bye bye Keurig". Overall a great, great cup of coffee.

I am looking forward to trying different beans and tweaking my technique.

Any and all advice and recommendations are welcomed.

Google the inversion method, it's my own personal fav. Basically you invert the Aeropress so the coffee can brew for your desired time (90 secs in my case) then pop up the right way and plunge. Of course the fan club of standing on one foot facing mecca while you stir or don't stir won't agree.
Bottom line, have a play, take a few notes so you can remember what you have done (in case you hit the sweet spot you prefer) and when you find what you like you can try different beans.

There certainly are some various methods that depart significantly from the instructions included in the box. Personally, I'm not a fan of the inverted method since I inverted the whole thing onto my clothes (just after getting ready for work) one morning.

This website has a TON of "recipes" for various methods of coffee brewing. It's a personal favorite.

The one drawback of using the aeropress is when it comes to entertaining. I prepared coffee for 5 guests and my wife and myself yesterday... it took forrrrreeevvvveerrrrrrrrrr. Time for a large Chemex.

I could definitely see how this could become an issue. I have to look into something for a larger group. It would probably be rude to serve myself a beautiful cup from the Aeropress while serving my guests from the Keurig.

It was a lot of fun, but I didn't get to enjoy the abundance of desserts until everyone else was complaining of the abundance of desserts. :001_rolle

On the other hand, I got a lot of compliments from people who don't consider themselves coffee drinkers.
