NEW Clean Up - Removing Spots from the Handle

I got these in today and gave them a quick clean up with scrubbing bubbles. The heads are nice and shiny and the handle on the worn head model, which is also a bit more copper looking cleaned up a bit better than the gold handle. The green spots on the gold handle particularly are now clean, but the discoloration is still there, although the spots are now blackish.

I am looking for tips from the experts on how to get those discolored spots gone without removing the plating - which on the gold model is in very good shape. The points on the checkering/knurling on both handles are still nice and sharp. I am pleased with my buy, but would be even more pleased if I can get the discoloration to say good by. I appreciate y'all's input.

Mods - please move this thread to the DE section. I thought I posted it there, but was in error. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ultrasonic cleaner usually does it for me. Hot water and a splash of mild laundry soap in it. That and a stiff bristle brush with some appropriate metal polish. I use a fine steel or brass brush (like those sold by gunsmiths), but if you're less bold, a really stiff toothbrush. What's appropriate metal polish? Something designed for your particular metal. I think the last time I had green spots on a gold plate, Cape Cod cloths were what did the trick.

I've heard stories of the ultrasonic causing plate loss, but I've yet to see it.

Will a quick dip and brush with Chlorox mess with a gold finish? Anybody had any luck with Chlorox getting these type spots off handles?

If you sell your cheap gold-plated jewelry to a "we buy gold" guy, one of the ways they strip the gold off is to soak it in a chlorine solution. Simple household bleach.

So... don't do that.

Clr might work. In general, look at kitchen and bath cleaning products. People spend lots of money on plated bath hardware, and companies spend lots of money researching products to clean said hardware. Lots of high end bath fixtures are nickel or gold plated brass - just like your razor.
