I am looking to purchase a new brush and looking for recommendations looking for something around the $100-150 range hoping to find silvertip if I can in that range.

Martinez Custom. He made me one last week to my specifications including handle shape based on a picture in his album (20mm knot, 50 mm handle made from bocote (South American hardwood), 50mm loft, silvertip) for $60 minus a 15% B&B discount...

Both Shavemac and Simpons are not worth the money, over-priced hype.
Add E&J and Muhle to that list as well...
Kent, Rooney, Semogue or Penworks/Penchetta!

No brush is universally "not worth the money" - for every person who loves their $20 boar brush, there's another who couldn't be happier with their $350 Plisson.
To answer the OP's question, I would recommend a Rooney 3/1 in Super. For $75, I think it's a great value. After that get yourself a Custom Shavemac - pick your own handle, knot size, loft height, and brush shape!

Thing is the brushes I listed all seem to have bad QC for the prices they want.
Boar vs Badger is a whole other "Flame" war.
I find Shavemacs and Simpsons to be excellent brushes. I agree with you on the EJ's and Muhles....But I have tried a few Kent's....They suffered in comparison to both Simpson and Shavemac......
Just my opinion. To each his own.
