New Blades

I've been using my starter Mekur blade for about a month with pretty good results. I hear a lot of people don't like the Mekur blades, so I went ahead and tossed mine last night after about 7-10 uses.

I have 5 Lord's Platinums that I bought with my beginner's set of gear, so I hooked it up and shaved last night. The shave was close and I nicked myself in a few spots, so I'll be working on my technique more. My skin felt a little more irritated after this shave than it did with the However, I can't say that the two types of blades are much different (definitely not better) than the Mekur blade. This type of blade is not in most of the "top 5" blades that I've seen other posters recommend.

Has anyone else had this kind of experience with Lord's blades? I've got a sample pack in the mail that I should get this weekend. I'm looking forward to testing out more types of blades.

7-10 uses? Most of us get 4-5 at most from a DE blade. 7-10 is definitely pushing it into the range of super dull. I would never want to try 7-10 uses on a Merkur blade, which I have found to be average at best.

As for the Lord Blades, I have tested with both the Super Stainless, and the Platinum. The Super Stainless were awful, and ripped my face up pretty bad.

The Lord Platinum seem to be a better blade, but I still would not rank them as an equal to the the Red Pack IP, which cost the same amount (100 for $10.00).

That is what most of the users on here say, but I could have continued to use the blade. It wasn't pulling, didn't skip, didn't give me any irritation and cut my beard as well as the Lord's I put in last night. The difference might be that I leave a thin (3/4 inch wide) strip beard, so I'm only really shaving half of the hair off my face.

I've heard rave reviews about the red IP's. Unfortunately the sample pack I bought does not have them, but I will pick up a pack to try out. Is there a local Brick and Mortar that sells these blades near Seattle?

The sample pack did come with Feathers, which everyone seems to like around here.

Feather's are very aggressive, and most folks either love them or hate them. If you liked the Merkur blade you will probably find the Feather way too sharp. What other blades came with your sampler? If you have Derby, Crystal, Dorco, Gillette Swede or Wilkinson Sword blades I would suggest you try them before the Feather.

I tried Lord blades when i started shaving whit a DE.
The result was quite awfull, the shave painfull.
First time i tried them i started to shave and the feeling i had was that i was using a bad blade, so i put it in the garbage and i tried another one, and same thing.
Since then i never use them again.
