What's new

Neutrogena just made my day!

Ok, so I was taking out a bunch of products last night to figure out what I'm going to PIF and saw an unused tube of Neutrogena Skin Clearing Shave Cream. I read the ingredients and the active ingredient is Salicylic Acid; just like the Menscience Advanced Shave Formula, which I also have and use it as a pre-shave. Given that the Neutrogena is 1/5th the price of the MS, I thought why not give it a try. For me, Salicylic Acid does wonders so having it on my face while shaving is an added bonus.

I did my normal prep (shower/wash) then I applied a dime size of the Neutrogena to my wet face. Worked it in and let it set while bowl lathering the TOBS Sandalwood Cream.

Did the first WTG pass using the EJ89/Feather and I cannot believe how smooth it was. Words really cannot describe it... just perfect.

I normally don't apply pre-shave on the second pass, but since it's only $5 for the tube I decided to go for it and apply the Neutrogena again before lathering with TOBS for the XTG pass.

Again, awesome! Super slick, no cuts, no pull, no nothing except smooth sailing.

And the icing on the cake... after rinsing with cold water and applying the alum block... there was virtually zero stinging from the alum, which means that my face was not irritated from the shave. Rinsed with cold water again, applied WH then followed with Proraso splash. Done and Done.

I'm loving life right now!

Cool!
thanks for sharing.
I'm going to give this cream a shot. I actually almost bought one of these yesterday, but thought it can't be all that great because of its pricepoint.

Cheers!

I bought 2 of these on sale at CVS a month or so ago when I started DE thinking that it was a lathering cream. When I found out that it obviously wasn't, I shelved them. I may have to pull one out tonight and give this a try. Thanks!:thumbup1:

For sure I wouldn't use it in lieu of proper lathering cream or soap but it's an awesome preshave.

Tried this this morning. I had 2 days worth of stubble, and i have thick coarse hair, so it's usually a game of tug-o-war with two days worth. I was short on time and splashed some cold water on my face, a layer of the Neutrogena and then face lathered some Proraso Red. One quick pass with my Schick Injector G and wow! Not a single tug, rip, nick, cut or weeper! I can't wait to try it when I can do a proper shave!

Thanks for this suggestion m139! :thumbup1:

I keep seeing this on the shelves, but always pass it by...not anymore! I'm definitely going to give this a try. Thanks for sharing!

I'm glad I was able to finally give a little back to B&B members. I know I've benefited tremendously from this forum and it's nice to see that I actually made a little contribution.

I am already a user of the Neutrogina post shave "Razor Defense". I swear by it, buy it in bulk and use after every shave. I will certainly give the shave cream a try. Their products are generally superior. Thanks for the heads up!

I will definitely give the Neutrogena Skin Clearing Shave Cream a try after purchasing. I'll have to let you goys know how it went. Thanks m139.

I always used that Shave Cream with a Sensor Excel until I went DE a few months ago. Think I still have some left and I'll have to try that!

Found this out months ago when I bought a tube of it thinking it would lather like CO Bigelows. No lather, clogs the razor when used by itself, but works real good as a pre-shave.

Thanks for sharing. I'm going to give it a try based on your enthusiasm for the product. Oh and the price is right too.

I knew somewhere there was a purpose for the Neutrogena Skin Clearing Shave Cream ... But NOT as a Shave Cream.
Thanks for the info.

I tried Neutrogena Skin Clearing Shave Cream (NSCSC) for the first time last night. I also tried cold water shaving for the first time. I don't know if it was the NSCSC, or the cold water shaving routine, or both, but I thought it was very good. I only applied the NSCSC for the first pass. Probably should use it for all passes. My children were in bed but acting up and my wife was at her wits end so I couldn't concentrate or enjoy the shave. But, that's my problem . I'll keep trying both NSCSC and cold water shaving to see if there is an improvement on my face. Thanks for the heads up, m139.

This is an awesome Idea! I had a couple of bottles of this and was struggling to use it as a standalone shave cream. It just wasn't working for me. I'm glad I came across this thread as I would have not had the idea to use it as a preshave cream. I tried it out last night along with a Razorock shave cream and it really does provide an extra layer of protection. I think it also helps to reapply it though for every pass as a thin layer underneath the cream really protects the skin. Glad I finally found a use for it as I was about to throw it away!
