need some help

Hey all,
i recently received a shave ready straight from Larry and i am trying to get my technique down and i have some concerns.

On my first WTG pass i use hardly any angle and the blade is almost flat, then i do another WTG pass with a bit more angle, however i find that i am not cutting any hair and as soon as i increase the angle enough to cut hair i get all sorts of irritation and cuts.
my lather and prep is the same as i use with my DE's and always worked great and ofcourse i am using little to no pressure.

just wondering if anyone may have some advice as to why this may be the case, and of course i understand there is a steep learning curve with a straight . I am just concerned that if i am having this kind of trouble with a nice well honed razor, i cant imagine how bad it could get with one that isnt as nice lol

Thanks for any help

My guess is that you' haven't found the sweet spot - it's in there somewhere! It will 'click in' for you before you know it. Maybe concentrate on the area just below your sideburns at first, just trying to raise the blade angle until you're getting some whiskers in the lather you remove. You might not get the closest shave right after one WTG pass, so look for whisker in the lather moreso than the perfect shave. Maybe try a XTG in this area, being mindful of blade angle, to see if that improves anything.

Hang in there - you'll get it. Keep posting if you have any more questions.

+1 on Steve's comment.

It takes a bit to get it right with a straight, some get the technique down easy and others, it takes a while... I'm suspecting that you have a too great angle on your second pass WTG that would be why. Patience and Practice!
