Need some help identifying Gillette SS

I bought this SS off of the bay a couple of weeks ago, and I need some help in the ID of it. I have narrowed it down to a 1942-1948. I was wondering if there is any way that it could be narrowed any further than that.

Nice find! I can't tell for sure, but if there is no notch on the center bar, which appears to be the case, then it is from 1947. Check out this thread for clarity on what I mean by the notch on the center bar. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?p=732565#post732565

Actually, on second glance, it appears that there is a notch, which means that it would be from 1948-50. The only way to get more precise than this is to have the case it came in.

Mine does have the notch. So the closest that I can pin it down to is 1948-1950.

Thanks for helping me narrow this guy down to a reasonable date. And I learned what the little hook is for on the center bar, That is a great idea! I wonder how much money the guy that invented that got?

'47 was the first year, but as noted, yours is notched, so it is '48 or later. I can't tell from your pics if there is a date code (started full time in 1951, after an experimental run in '50).

The date code would be a single letter on the left and a single number on the right, corresponding to the year and quarter it was manufactured. The 51's were an X, and that followed through 1954, Z, being the last of this type of Super Speed. 1954 also saw the debut of the next series of Super Speed.

The letter would be under the head, on the left side under some other printing. The number would be opposite it on the far right. If none, it is indeed a '48 to '50.
