Need Gillette Adjustable Repair Help!

Over the weekend, I bought some MAAS and polished all of my razors. They look amazing. This morning I grabbed my black handled 1970 Gillette Adjustable and noticed it was on 4 instead of 5. I went to turn it and the dial would not turn "up" but went "down". It dialed down past one, 9, 8, 7, 6 to 5. So instead of adjusting from 1-9, it now goes from 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1, 2, 3 to 4.

I don't know HOW it happened, but how to I adjust it back to a 1-9? Anyone ever had this happen?

I did not shave with it as I suspect the 4 setting could have now been a 9 setting and I had no idea what to expect.

It is my favorite razor too. :confused1

It sounds as it's some dried up Maas (I might be wrong)

Try leaving the razor in warm water for a while, and then gently try it again. This might solve your problem.

But someone with more esperience could think of another solution.

Good luck.

I learned this from amishmotorboat so if it works, give him credit.

Your adjustable may be overclocked. Set the razor to the number that you suspect is 1. The blade gap should be at its narrowest compared to all the other settings. Push the spring (that little slot above the adjuster dial) in with the end of a paper clip, pencil tip, etc. Turn the dial down to 1. Release the spring. Your razor should now be back to normal.

Definitely overclocked.

THANK YOU!

Hope it works.

Oh my goodness, post the results the second you have tried it out! The thought of a poorly adjustable is more than I can stand! :w00t:

Worked like a charm...literally took somewhere between ONE AND TWO SECONDS for this fix. :thumbup1: I used tweezers instead of a paper clip...I don't keep those in my medicine cabinet.

Thanks again!
