What's new

Nearly lost my eye today

So I was using my parker SRW and started shaving. I was going with the grain and didnt think much of it. I guess I got a little too confident in my skill and wasnt really paying attention. (I was thinking about something else). Then I went against the grain and JUST below my eye maybe 1/4 or 1/2 inch below my right eye I got cut. Blood came flying down my face. I didnt think much and threw on a little aftershave. Bleeding still kept on going. Then I took a shower and while I was in the tub, I placed a rag where I got cut hoping the bleeding would stop. Still nothing, now I started to get scared. I put on my glasses and looked carefully and noticed it was deep. Finally I drank a glass of water (Thins out the blood) and kept on placing towels on the wound. It finally stopped.

If for some reason I was using a shave oil and pulled my skin tight in that area, the shark blade would have gone straight into my eye. Defenatley more carefull now and decided to wait a week or so before going back. Who would have thought you can kill yourself shaving???

you have hair that close to your eye? impressive.

may i suggest some of these

I have to thank you profusely for not giving in to the usual habit of some B&B members to show graphic pictures of their shaving-related wounds.

Better luck on your future shaves with the SRW. I also use this razor, mainly for water clean up, but also for travel. Yeah, you gotta be careful. Its a very light razor and very easy to get over confident. :yikes:

heh, happens to the best of us, i stabbled my ear lobe once, and shaved off a piece of my left nostril, happens,

I'm glad you are OK, but your adventure illustrates the inherent dangers of DE and straight-razor shaving. This is why Gillette and other companies moved to cartridges and why most men followed them in the move. How many posts on this board have accused Gillette of being motivated only by profit?

I use DE blades, and I know the risks. Most men will never accept those risks, and we should all respect that (or at least acknowledge it).

Hm. I would pose that as a genuine question. How big a deal did safety really play in the move toward cartridge razors?

I can't imagine holding that much blade to my skin and thinking about anything else. There's more than one way to have a close shave.

In the move from straight to DE safety razors, quite a bit (in the interest of sales). DEs to carts was all about fleecing the patent.
