Naniwa 12K Equivalent

I already the Norton 4K/8K and was hoping to get a Naniwa 12K but looks like they are unavailable, at least for now.

Does anyone have any ideas on an equivalent stone?

I have both the Shapton 12k and Namiwa 10k and it seems that the Naniwa is finer.
They use different grid scales.
I also remember reading some reviews that argued that the naniwa 10k was a better finisher than the Naniwa 12k. However I can not concur myself as I do not have the 12.

I can not answer your question as I have no Naniwa 12000#.

I have a Norton 4000/8000# and the 8000# side give me an edge like
a naniwa 5000#, different grit rating. Not saying the Naniwa is better.

My thinking is that a naniwa 8000# would add more than a naniwa 12000# after a Northon 8000#.

Must be rather many that have experience using norton 8000# and then Naniwa stones or similar that can give advice what works for them.

Today, are you using paste after the Norton stone?

If you're in the USA, they're available from several sellers. The Shapton Pro 12k is close but the SS 12k nudges it out. The Nani 10k is an option but not as fine as the 12k; it's 1.47µm, the 12k is closer to 1µm. Shapton Pro 12/15k is just under 1µm. The 10k will serve in a pinch, but I'd take the 12k over it any day.

I like your perspective. No not using paste, new and learning basics.

I hear good things about the Shapton 12k as well, though it seems to come second to the Naniwa 12K. Interested to learn of the Shapton 20k as well.

One route:
Norton 4000/8000#, Naniwa 8000#, coarse paste on denim/canvas strop, 0,5 micron diamond paste on leather strop.
When you get ok shaves with this ad a Naniwa 12000#.
And later perhaps a natural stone........and another :)

Another route:
Bevel set Norton 4000#,back stroke Norton 4000#, back stroke Norton 8000#, coarse paste on denim/canvas strop, 0,5 micron diamond paste on leather strop. See simple straight razor honing at "science of sharp".

Another route:
Norton 4000/8000#,
(Lapping film 5 micron)
Lapping film 3 micron
Lapping film 1 micron, put printing paper under).
(Lapping film 0,3 micron, printing paper under).
(diamond pasted leather strop/balsa strop. If you end with printing paper under lapping film it will be possible to use diamond pasted leather strop or balsa with good result).
