What's new

My Wifey.

Well, I managed to hook my wifey on to fountain pens...
She is pretty good at sketching/doodling IMHO. She recently bought a sketch pad, and this is her first work.
She says it looks like a childs drawing, I disagree. Good thing she is visiting her mom in Alabama, if she catches me posting this I will be in the dog house for sure.
What do YOU think?
Also, does Rhodia, or any others make a good sketch pad, or plain paper pad in a large format?
regards,
Bil

That is a very nice sketch. It has the essence of a tree in a field along with a little whimsical fantasy. It draws you into the image.

Nice.

Encourage her to do more.

Ditto Turtle.
That is some good, inspired work.

A child's drawing would be more "cartoony"... like a completed coloring book.

There are come geometrical perspective issues with the fence and the groundcover, but that is not uncommon even among artists that are successful at using art to make a living.
One artist I recall from another forum a few years ago painted beautiful landscapes. Mountains, lakes, rivers, etc... VERY good looking. Somewhat impressionistic, but not to the point of traditional impressionist work. If you had been where she was depicting, you would recognize the location.

But anything man-made? She had no concept of convergence of the straight lines on buildings and vehicles. She painted a Corvette parked in a meadow. The landscape was awesome. The Vette looked like the far corner of the hood and roof were lifted 6 feet comparing the perspective of the hood/roof and the front and side. She did the same thing when she tried to put a cabin into a landscape.

Very nice sketch, the colors, the form and movement. But I see what your wife means by "a child's drawing". The perspective is off, maybe? (I have trouble with stick figures). I would think sketching with a FP would be difficult because the niob has to be oriented a cetrtain way and you woud loose freedom of movement.
