My whipped dog and question about restoration.

Hi all,

I have the wet shaving bug, and it's all your fault! :biggrin1: This is not an uncommon theme around these parts - my collection seems to be growing by the day, and I've recently decided to begin shaving with straights. This will not end well for my wallet.

Anyway, I bit the bullet and bought a whipped dog sight unseen deal, and have had my first shave. The problem is, I'm a bit needy when it comes to aesthetics. The blade is great, and my first two shaves have been superb (relatively speaking, of course). I have enclosed some pictures of the blade, and would like some advice as to how to make it more aesthetically pleasing! All in all, I love the whipped dog deal!

If people could give me advice as to how I could clean it up, that would be great. I'm also happy to send it away if that's an easier route. I'm in the UK.

Many thanks, gentlemen.

As you can see it is a Dubl Duck razor, which I believe are pretty good?

Pipe cleaners and hot soapy water is good for getting all the gunk from between the scales, dental floss for around the tang. High grit wet/dry and some metal polish can bring back the shine. The only issue with sanding and polishing the blade is that the edge will likely need to be rehoned.

I suspect for the price of a professional restoration you could get a nicer blade in great condition.
