So I was really excited to use my new spyderco sharpmaker to sharpen my benchmade mini grip which, admittedly I had allowed to go dull . Silly me.
So naturally, it took quite some time to get the edge back and once I got the hang of the system it really is quite nice. I have all 4 sets of the ceramic stones and only went up to the "Fine" grade and at that point my blade was able to filet a piece of paper, although the blade was still not perfect and I still have a bit of work to do, I was very pleased with the Spyderco sharpmaker system it is very user friendly and easy to use. You can sharpen just about anything on it!
I highly recommend getting the diamond stones if you are going to be sharpening a very dull blade. The Medium grits do a fine job, but you'll be there for some time.
Also, the spyderco sharpmaker uses a 30 over 40 degree back bevel so most knives will need to be honed quite a bit if they are not already close to that degree.
