What's new

My shave den at 2.5 months in.what's left for me (software)

I started out with a Van der Hagen set and an EJ87. The bug bit me hard and now, a mere two and a half months later, I have the following:

Soaps:

Mama Bear's Northwoods
Mama Bear's Phoenix Rising
Van der Hagen deluxe
Col. Conk Bay Rum

Creams:

C.O. Bigelow
TOBS Mr. Taylor
TOBS Avocado
Musgo Real
Irisch Moos

AS:

Old Spice

Help enable me, B&B... what do I NEED to get now? Don't worry...SWMBO's wrath will only be directed at me, not you all. :001_cool:

Soap:
Mikes Natural ( any scent ) - I really like his orange/cedar/peppercorn
Mystic Waters ( any scent ) - I liked 'Prospect Creek'. It's a peppermint/menthol soap

Creams:
Ingram ( it's a mentholated lanolin cream ) - I found it on amazon

AS: can't really help you there...

Have you tried using an alum bar after your shave & before an AS? Also, an inexpensive 'Pure' or 'Best' badger brush if you're using a boar... if you're using a badger brush, you should try an Omega boar brush.

Brushes:

Van der Hagen badger
Semogue 830 boar

DE:

EJ87
40s Super Speed

Have not tried an alum bar, zethreal. I think I'll pick one up next order.

Brush: Simpsons Duke 2-3
Razor: Gillette LC NEW, FaTip Grande
Soap: Cade, anything RazoRock
Cream: Gotta try the new Muscgo
AS: Captain's Choice Bay Rum

I second D.R. Harris soaps. Some other English hard soaps and creams would be good as well - try T&H, Trumpers and Castle Forbes. You also need to try some Italian soft soaps such as Cella and RazoRock. I've also noticed that you don't have much in the way of Germanic products, so pick up some Tabac, Calani, Speick and Klar. There are also plenty of artisan soap makers you've overlooked, so a selection of Mikes, Mysitc Waters, etc. would be good. Oh, and don't forget a couple different scented soaps or creams from AOS. Once you've accumulated and tried all those products come back for more suggestions!

Oh, did you want any suggestions to start a brush collection as well?

Soaps: Cella and Tabac
AS: Any of the stuff from Ogallala Bay Rum (or get the sampler bonanza pack and try them all). Also, Captains Choice Bay Rum. Both rock mightily but in different ways.

Tabac is nice. My wife said it smells like an old man but I like it anyway. I still get a hint of it 8 hours later.

ChiefBroom

No tattoo mistakes!
Tabac soap
Proraso Green soap (green tub)
Cella cream/soap (red tub)
1903 shave cream
Musgo Real AS
Proraso AS (classic)
Dominica Bay Rum
Dominica Bay Rum w/ Lime
Captain's Choice Bay Rum
Lucky Tiger AS

Along with MWF soap, Tabac soap, 1903 cream (which I use along with MWF and Tabac), Musco Real AS, Proraso AS, and the two Dominica Bay Rums are my mainstays. I started DE with Cella, have recently come back around to it, and think I may start using it again on a regular basis as well -- it delivers great results.

Arko and most things Razorock for when you need that effortless lather.
Mystic water for when you need a great lather.

Try some single edged razors before you go hog wild on more DEs....

More Razors!

And Razorock.

And QCS.

And get matching splashes for your TOBS scents.

Stick with your semogue brush.

Try a single edge.

Forget everything we just said and just enjoy your shaves. You've got some great stuff to shave with.

But I get it. Good luck.....

Where's the Castle Forbes Creams?!!!!!!!!!! You can get free samples from Colonial Drug in Boston. I sent an email and when I purchased some products they sent the order with an enclosed bill. Kind of an old fashioned way to do business, but very nice.

Ultimate Comfort is another favorite of mine, but you should definitely try a T&H sampler. I find all the other scents are equal in quality, but you will certainly find some scents you prefer.

Anyything and everything by Proraso, also Brut. You can't call yourself a wet-shaver before you have at least one item from Proraso! Also blades???
