What's new

My review of Azzaro pour homme (not favorable)

Being a HUGE fan of Tuscany and its orange-y/citrus spices I figured I'd love this fragrance based on all of the reviews. Well, I recently got a 1.7oz bottle in a trade and tried it on. I cannot speak of the base notes or anything, but I will just say it for awhile smells like outside. That's awesome. I figured if it stayed like that it'd be a keeper. Well, the dry down for me is where it goes wrong. It smells like Best Buy. Seriously! I go into Best Buy in my area and I smell this! I just can't do it, it doesn't fit me scent wise or personality. I've found my holy grail fragrances, McGraw Southern Blend and Tuscany by Aramis so I'm just searching for their best friends. It seems like a well made scent, just not for me. I also feel like it's not very "me," in the sense that I am a tie and jacket kind of guy, and to me this exudes a more rugged outdoorsy kind of quality. Southern Blend is my "rugged" scent, and it's still very classy to me, so this just doesn't do it for me.

If you like rugged scents, get this. I just feel this hasn't much "sophisticaton or class." I'm just into that a little more.

I think you are being too positive on this scent. I don't think it's even a rugged outdoorsy kind of scent.

Yeah I'm going to just pretend that you never wrote any of this.

I wouldn't say rugged nor outdoorsy, it's a pretty standard classy fougere. I think it's been in the top 10 best selling men's fragrances in france every year since it was introduced in 1978 and they prefer some pretty frou frou stuff.

Not to say I'm a huge fan of it myself. I like everything about it except it has this weird waxy note in it that I'm not thrilled with. Plus I wish it had more anise...

I've heard people compare this to Rive Gauche. To me RG smells contemporary and timeless. Azarro smells dated.

I don't particularly mind Azzaro PH, I just find that I don't feel comfortable wearing it do to its strongly "classic" smell. My sister (who is 21) told me I smelled like a fur coat, which wasn't exactly the reaction I was expecting. I think in moderation it makes for a pleasant soapy fougere, but I do think one has to be older to wear it comfortably.

Well, I found my bottle yesterday. And sprayed on about eight squirts to get some presence out of it.
It was okay, but I still don't understand why it's so admired.

Renato

I was surprised also. I picked up a bottle and was less than impressed.

I like parts of the scent separatly, but there are parts of the scent that seem to conflict.

I want to like it. In fact I keep going back every few weeks hoping that the scent mellows in the bottle or my body chemistry changes.

I have also found that I really have no reached for this bottle since I bought it. Like Kindestcutofall, I go back to it periodically to see if it improves and it doesn't. It is not bad, I can just pick so many over this. Recently I have been choosing either Ceasar's Man or Trumper Curzon if I want to go for an old-school style.

That's interesting. I like RGPH fairly well, but I prefer Azzaro. They aren't all that similar to me (Tuscany and Azzaro are more similar). Neither smell dated particularly dated to me, but then again, both are pretty far from today's generic ethereal ozonic acquatic designer releases.
