My Pre-Game Plan...with a butter knife

I must confess, I have been in the bathroom using a butter knife to get the proper holds and possble pulls...

The mystique is setting in...

I already have. Earlier today I shaved with a Morley and my homemade strop. It went pretty well. No bleeding, but there were certain areas of my face that I could not safely reach...thus the butter knife.

Yes, it can be awkward in places.
The biggest problem I had at the beginning was the area just below the sideburns. Several times I had red lines on one side of the face or the other there because when you put the razor up to start there, your hand is in perfect position to block your vision in the mirror!
Glad to hear yours went ok.

Just do it! You are not going to get a good shave the first time you use a straight. All you should come away with is the knowledge that cutting yourself is actually harder than you had any reason to expect.

If your practicing with a butter knife.... Then you need to just put the DE away and go for it full time. Unless of course you have a job that requires you to be perfectly clean shaven.

Come on over. Its nice here......:001_smile

I recommend to use a butter knife on a strop to learn how to get the feel and muscle memory prior to shaving.

Just jump in with both feet flying. It takes some time and you will probably get a few cuts, but nothing beats the real thing.
