What's new

My only problem with shaving...

After the past few weeks, I've come to the conclusion that I have a recurrent problem with a shave: I need to go a day or two between shaves! I have been getting the slightest bit of ingrown in one place under my jawline, so if I don't want to be bleeding or in pain, I have to let it go a couple of days. Then again, this problem happened with carts, too, so I suspect that it's endemic to the hair growth in that place, very "flat" growth angle.

Anyway, thanks to a lot of the suggestions that I've read around here, I'm getting a much better shave than ever before. Now, if I could just get the lather right. I'm either way too wet, or way too dry. Not much of a happy middle ground at the moment

Would you be able to shave this area more comfortably if you could keep the blade nearly flat against the skin? If so, a Goodfella razor will do that safely.

I don't know if that would work, since the growth in that area is almost flat. But, I'll give it a try in a couple of days. Thanks for the suggestion!

Glad to hear things are coming along well. Maybe you can just do one pass over that area and it won't get quite so irritated.

You might want to try doing a J-hook in that area, Mantic shows that technique on one of his video"s on advanced shave technique.

Its probably best to try several things until you find just the right way shave that area. Any of them that you do just let the razor be all the pressure you use. If that works for you fine, but if you need to add some pressure just do it ever so lightly. You'll find the right method that will tackle your problem. Just go slow and don't give up. :thumbup1: :w00t: :001_rolle

I had this problem too on my neck in one spot. I found that if i slightly changed my blade angle it got rid of my problem. Once i really started studying the grain and direction of my beard and applying it to my shving directions and blade angles I started getting great shaves.

I can't shave everyday. I usually go every other else I get pretty bad irritation on the neck. I had the same problems with my carts, but with them I would have to wait 3-4 days. Every other day is a huge improvement for me and am happy with that frequency of shaves... and I shave strictly at night.

My son has the same ingrown hair issues. He only shaves every third day because of it.
I hope you fellas find your solutions quickly.

I used to have neck irritation, but that was fixed when I finally figured out my lathering technique.
