What's new

My New Muhle R41

This morning, I had a terrible shave with my girlfriend's EJ DE89. It wasn't the razor's fault, but her brush is in the mail so I had to make do with her Kiss My Face brushless. When I got home, I was excited to see that my brand new Muhle R41 had finally come in the mail! After giving it a thorough first cleaning and hanging it up, I just couldn't resist. I got my face wet, whipped up some Proraso tub, and let the blade do its thing.

What a shaver! I could only tell it was doing something due to the distinct sound the flat blade makes. I did three and a half passes: WTG, XTG, ATG, and ATG cleanup. Very, very easy BBS. I've only owned four razors, but this is the first one I've gotten a BBS out of the box with. And zero irritation, to boot.

My question to everyone here: What's so daunting about the Muhle R41? I had no cuts, no nicks, and a very smooth shave on the first go whereas my Futur destroyed my face the first time I tried it.

Am I just lucky it let me live this time? Because I think I just found my new daily shaver...

There's nothing really daunting about the R41. Its just that many users for the first time are not used to a razor that if used incorrectly will result in big time irritation. This is usually caused from using way too much pressure. For many it takes a bit of getting use to.

YMMV. I had an R41 briefly, it wasn't for me so to BST it went. I'm glad yours works for you. You are in good company though, that razor gets a lot of love here.

You must have Tough Leather skin :scared: No way in Hell can i achieve a Nick Free Irritation from Shave with this R41 Beast. For this bad boy i have to do a Cold water Shave which keeps the skin tight and less likely to get cut, and i can only do a WTG, XTG, XXTG for a nice Smooth BBS, But Never Ever ATG on Neck or Mouth area. But on the other had after shaving with this Razor , There is no Razor I Cant Shave with, Thanks to this R41 it has helped me improve my shaving skills like no other razor can.

Glad this Razor worked for you, I'm curious what kind of blade did you use? I Used a Feather, and an Astra SP Was Smoother for me..

R41 is all I use now. I own (2) and keep one in my travel kit. It took me 30+ shaves to handle it though. The first few shaves were gruesome.

Gingerbread, you probably refined your technique (using no pressure, and letting the blade and weight of the razor do the work for you) much better after using the Futur. The R41 is one of my favorites as well. I also got two, and I prefer the Grande.

I think perhaps you already learned respect and technique from using your Futur. I found that blade gap intimidating the first few times I used it, but now I can use it like a pro. The R41 will be my next razor. Then I can stop buying razors forever. I promise. Really.

Astra SPs.

I did it with hot water, Nivea Pre-Shave Scrub, Proraso Green Tub, and Nivea Aftershave Balm. Been trying the Nivea stuff with some pretty great results. We'll see how today's shave goes, though.

Another day, another great shave. I had to do four full passes this time, though. WTG, XTG, ATG, and ATG. I've been using this same setup for a couple weeks now, but the R41 leaves my face feeling much healthier than my Futur. Almost a DE89 feel, I think - like you can shave for hours with no problem. I'll be interested to see how smooth it leaves me for how long. I give my face a break on Saturdays and Sundays, so I'm excited to see how well it will mow through the growth on Monday.
