What's new

My latest shaving addiction spending spree

First of all, greets to the B&B crowd. I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name's Logan--pleased to meet you.

So my sister bought me a vintage straight razor for my birthday and it kick-started my shaving addiction once again. In a matter of days I have placed orders for the following things (in order):

  • A 4 oz. tube of MAAS to polish my razor
  • A Kent BK12 because I decided to quit drooling and just bite the bullet (by far my biggest single item expenditure thus far--plus the GBP-CAD exchange rate is great right now)
  • A cobalt blue Moss Scuttle from Sara Bonnyman (can't wait)
  • A bowl of Tabac shave soap from FragranceX.com (yay free shipping!)

I also found a local barber who offered to hone my razor free of charge, but I'm waiting till my MAAS arrives so I can get it nicely polished up before taking it to him.

Anyway just thought I'd share my splurging excitement and also to say thanks for the wealth of information available on B&B.

Cheers, and here's to a good shave!

Logan

welcome to B&B.

Welcome to B&B Logan, the finest and most gentlemanly place on the whole internet!

You are obviously a MANLY man, making the jump from the world of carts directly to using a straight. I am in awe... please keep us all advised on how it's going (and how many stitches were required:wink:).

As a confirmed Kent user, and owner of a BK4, a vintage Kent just restored by Rudy Vey, and a Kent travel brush, I have brush envy... going directly to a BK12 - WOW!

Obviously, you are not a man for half measures! Therefore, you should fit right in here at B&B, but be prepared for multiple AD's (Acquisition Disorders) in your quest for the ultimate shave. Again, WELCOME!

Thanks John et al. for the warm welcome.

To be honest, while I'm new to B&B, I'm not completely new to single-blade shaving. I've used a DE for a year or so now (Merkur 39C Slant and before that a Weishi), but I will say I didn't expect to be trying my hand at straight shaving as soon as I am. It was always kind of a "some day" thing. Well now that I have one in my hand it's more of an "as soon as I can" thing.

Got my MAAS in the mail today. While it certainly took years off the blade, there's more work to be done. I don't think it'll ever be as good as new, but it's looking a lot better.

Here is a before photo (it was in pretty rough shape--will post more when I'm finished polishing it):

I'm thinking of taking it over to the barber tomorrow after attempting to polish it a bit more and get it honed. I'm still not sure if it will even work--the blade is pretty old and not in great shape (as you can see), but it's worth a shot. If it doesn't I can always buy another and keep this one as a collector's piece.

Be careful polishing that thing -- it gives me shivers just thinking about it!!

BTW, I predict you will absolutely adore your Sara Bonnyman Moss scuttle. Mine arrived yesterday and I used it for the first time today. My reaction? Where have you been all my life!!!

Enjoy!
