My Latest Project

The worlds nastiest gourd calabash! The pictures don't do thing justice, these are the Etsy sellers pics. I got a little too excited to get started with the refurb and forgot to take before pics. So far I've used a whole package of bristle pipe cleaners and half a pint of everclear cleaning the years of goop out of the gourd. The bowl was filthy and marred up, so I sanded it down, I'll apply beeswax to it when I get towards the end. I've got the gourd full of everclear and the majority of the gunk out of it. I'll let it sit overnight and hopefully have it done by tomorrow evening. Thankfully the cork gasket is in marvelous condition and everything looks like it will fit back together nicely. I'll post some pics of the process and the finished product after it's done. Thanks for looking.

More S/A, finished pipe. Buffed gourd with carnuba, polished stem with tripoli, then carnuba. I'll let the pipe air out for a few days before smoking. I'm pretty pleased considering I only gave $30 for this pipe, and it's my first and only gourd calabash. Thanks for looking.

Super job! Now for the dumb question - what are the virtues of a meerschaum-lined calabash pipe? I have seen photos of them before, and I have read that meerschaum can be smoked frequently without any obligatory cooling off period. But other than that, I know nothing of them.

They smoke insanely cool and dry because of the chamber between the gourd and the rest of the pipe. Also, meerschaum doesn't ghost which is a great benefit.
