My Homemade Super Speed Disassembly Screwdriver!

Hey all,

So I decided I wanted to learn how to disassemble my 40's Style Super Speed. Originally I had no intention of ever disassembling any razor, but I decided that it would be good to know how to take apart and put back together my equipment.

So upon reading this thread, I decided to make my own screwdriver to fit the 4 slotted screw and the end of the Super Speed.

After a bunch of filing and narrowing of the shaft of the screwdriver so it would properly fit down the handle of the razor, I had completed my tool. After a quick trial to make sure it fit and worked, I sanded it down a little just to smooth out the edge and to make it a finished tool.

I'm very proud of it, and I was successfully able to take apart and reassemble my Super Speed without a scratch!

I know it's not a big deal, but I was proud of myself and now I have a new tool!

Wow! Looks almost exactly like the one I made last week! Isn't it cool when you can figure out something like this, and it works! Congratulations!

I'm impressed. Nice job.

Thanks. :001_smile

Thank you. And yes, it is cool when you can make something and have it work perfectly. :w00t:

I almost want to buy more 40's Super Speeds just to take them apart. But I do have a Red Tip coming, and IIRC they have the same 4 sided screw at the bottom. So I will definitely have to take that apart when I get it.

I have one of those as well. They are awesome, and you get the satisfaction of creating a task specific tool.

I don't know how helpful that would be, the Super Speeds have a wire ring "C" clip.

Yea I've been trying to wrap my brain around that one, I kinda destroyed a rather unsalvageable SS to see the innards and see what would be needed to use. Best thought so far is some type of mini needle nose pliers, I'm keeping an eye out for a tool that would be small enough to open the c ring and then close it back up.

Can someone post a picture of this clip?

When I worked in power tool repair, we had special tools for C-rings, both for spreading them open and squeezing them closed (for internal clamping). A pic might help identify if it's the same thing.

I'd like to give a moment of thanks to the the poor superspeed that gave up it's life so that others may live a cleaner life. BTW anyone need any SS spare parts?

I'm favoring 3 piece razors instead: easy to clean, easy to take apart, simplistic design, less parts to fail compared to one piece TTO razors, built like tanks. Mostly talking about the good old fat handled Techs.
