What's new

My first Vulfix: 2236 Super

My new brush came in yesterday, and I couldn´t be happier. (oh well, maybe when my Eagle (groupbuy) arrives...)
Hey, ..I,m still a brush newbie compared to you guys, since my starter kit brush AOS pure badger, I have added the Edwin Jagger Best xl, Simpson Keyhole2 (best), Simpson Special (best), Simpson The Duke 3(best) and now the Vulfix 2236 Super.

First thing I noticed , it´s huge! compared to my other brushes. Now I know,.. bigger is not alway better,..but still.
The handle sizes of the Simpsons are perfect for me, I´m using the Simpson Special most of the time. I haven´t used this one yet as I write this, maybe this afternoon.(I have nightshift). Posted a pic to compare it to The Keyhole2

Question: Is "Super" the same grade as " Best badger" or is it somewhat softer?

Cheers,
Eric

Handle height: 70mm
Overall brush height: 130mm
Knot diameter (At base): 26mm

Looks awesome! Plus it's going in to quite a collection already well done. Be sure to post back with results of how it compared to your other brushes.

The Vulfix 2236s is very good brush. I have one. It was my first "good" brush. And yes, it is large. I don't use it as much anymore. It is not as sturdy in the loft area as my Savile Row and 2006 B&B Limited but that is not to say it is a poor performer. Just different. It is a great cream brush but I think it lacks the backbone to be a great hard soap brush. It works. It just doesn't bring up the lather as fast as the others on the soaps. I still have it in the rotation. And btw, the Super hair is essentially the same thing as silvertip. Vulfix and Simpson always used the term Super rather than silvertip for their better grades of hair

Just on a side note Vulfix do or did have a grade better than super called Silvertip it is massively soft and hugely expensive for a Vulfix so whether it is a true Silvertip in Vulfix's eyes I don't know but it matters little as Vulfix super are some of the best all round brushes available, which can't be said of the Silvertip. Question to the more Vulfix wise than me does Vulfix still produce the Silvertip and has it got any better?

Vulfix impresses me and I like the look of the brush you obtained! It truly makes the Key Hole resemble a Wee Scot there!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Just had my first shave with it and it was pure heaven. I have to say I´m a cream guy, so I can´t comment on how it works with soap.
I face lathered with a tiny dab of Truefitt 1805 cream and it worked into a huge amount of lather in no time, also with this size it´s easy to cover your face with lather with one or two strokes.
The bristles were very soft on the face also,it was a treat! So for first use I really can´t say anything negative. Ask me again maybe in a few weeks.

Yes. And I think it used to be a non stock item as well. Almost a semi custom brush. I think.

Vulfix update here guys, it would appear that Super is Vulfix's best badger grade and there is still a Silvertip grade which remains achingly expensive! link to Vulfix site:http://www.vulfixoldoriginal.com/products-category.asp?CatID=1&SubCatID=22

Yeah Grant. This is my understanding of it as well. I remembered hearing and seeing a bit of mention about these silvertip Vulfix brushes on the forums and it was a pretty big deal since Vulfix had never used the term before. From what I gather the few guys who tried them thought they were similar in quality fo the silvertip line but more densely packed. A darned nice brush I'd wager. How is the spring in Caledonia?

Well done Eric. Vulfix reallty does make nice brushes and they don't get the attention they deserve at times. Glad to see you like it. Remember, when Simpon's owners decided to retire, they went straight to Vulfix as a possible company to take over the name. They wanted a company they could trust to keep the Simpson's name a cut above the rest. That is pretty telling.
