My First Three Way Pass

I have been wet shaving for about two years. I have Benign Essential Tremors and somewhat sensitive skin. So, I was doubtful about attempting that third pass, ATG. I have consistently used EJ razors. Currently using the 89 Barley. I've tried a lot of blades and settled on the Feather. Recently, thanks to B&B, I began experimenting with blades, specifically Pol-Silver, Bic, and Personna Blue Lab. None of these seemed as sharp as the Feather, so I went back, continuing two passes, WTG and XTG. And I bled. I was used to bleeding. blaming the tremors. But whilst trying blades not quite as aggressive as the Feather, I did not bleed.
So I went back again, and settled on the Personna. It was smooth and almost as sharp as the Feather. This morning, a day off, I decided to take my time and try three passes. My usual prep is wash my face, GFT Skin Food, and today I used my favorite soap, MWF. My brush today is a 22mm knot Silver Tip Whipped Dog.
And I did it. Things got very shaky around my upper lip, but I made three passes and no blood. My cheeks are BBS, but not my neck or my upper lip--especially under the nose--but I did it. The alum block only burned on the upper lip.
I may not do three passes every day, but I am happy that I CAN do it. And I would not have done it except for all the useful information from my shave den buddies at B&B. Thanks all.

Congratulations! Isn't it rewarding when you've accomplished somthing you've been attempting for so long? I have the EJ89 barley also, and love Astra SP's in ine. The shave has almost become effortless. A three pass shave almost gets me to the BBS...I still have problems getting that close under my jaw, but I'm working on it.

Go for the three passes as often as you can...and it'll become second nature!

Nicely done!

I've given up on ATG on the upper lip, it's just way too uncomfortable for me up there. The hairs are too short and the skin is too raw and I always end up with irritation. It's XTG+GTX all the way for me!

Hang in there Chadao! Glad you made it through bloodlessly. I too suffer from benign essential tremor as the side-effect of some medications and they're at their worst in the morning. I can tell anybody who's interested there's nothing benign about tremors and they're damn sure not essential. I hate to admit it but I'm a two-handed shaver because of the tremors. I steady my left hand with my right. Keep adding passes as you get better. I normally do four and two of them are ATG so it's possible. I like the Blue Labs too and if you get the chance give Gillette Silver Blues a try. They are smooth and sharp. Concentrate and persevere and if we ever meet I'll be proud to shake your hand.

Thanks everyone. Oldbluelight, thanks especially. Yeah, I do the opposite and steady my right hand with my left, which makes holding the nose out of the way...difficult. I was encouraged today and I have two more days off to take my time and work on my technique. And oldbluelight, I will be proud to shake your hand, as well.
