My first straight razor shave!

So I was back at my parents house for mothers day, and my sister was there. She is a hair stylist and while I we ended up discussing shaving she mentioned that she had a "Straight razor" in her kit. I looked at it and pondered, then I asked if I could borrow it. She said that she got it in her school and it was less than five dollars. It looked just like...

I was very skeptical, but last night, I tried it. I went WTG with no difficulty, I was scared at first but after every stroke I gained confidence. Once I finished the WTG pass it was smooth, still a little stubly, but smooth. I then re-lathered and did an XTG the pass even better, still at this point, no nicks or weepers or and blood. I am very excited at this point and try and brave an ATG pass. I managed it successfully to a BBS shave, with only a few small blood droplets forming underneath my chin on the third pass. My wife then felt my face, after watching this entire process, cringing the entire time!!! She was amazed by how smooth it was. So after this success, in my opinion, I am going to shave again with this one more time. If I get another good shave I will be aquiring a straight here within the month.

Has anyone else shaved with one of these, do you guys think that it will be harder with a real straight? I am kind of apprehensive again about another straight, wondering if it will be more difficult. Any more advice will be helpful! I can't wait for another straight shave, I hope its as good as the first.

Thanks for reading!

Good work!

IMO a real straight razor is easier to use. The shavette doesn't give you the same feel and doesn't allow you a smaller angle to attack the whiskers!

YMMV!

Welcome to the club :001_smile

While I am personally not a fan of square points, that is a good looking razor, and the price is nice too :thumbup1:

I am not really sure what type of point I will like, or really the differences. I kind of just like the way the square point looks. :blushing:

It is shave ready if you look below the description, plus it's nos so will be in a far better condition, but it's your choice.

I am actually going to peruse my local antique stores tommorow before work, I live in a very old town, so hopefully I can find a project.
