What's new

My first shave with an OC!

I picked up this gem on ebay and could hardly wait to clean it up and try it out. I couldn't believe how good a shave a 100yr old razor could give. I used a Wilkinson Sword with 3 previous shaves under its belt. I have a completely BBS shave. I did chicken out on using both sides due to a slight nick in the head. Do you think this would affect the shave any?

It did take me longer than normal to shave and really paid close attention to the angle, but I am sold on this razor!

nah, should shave like a champ. a nick in the comb... well..... that's another story. you're good due to the blade angle. even with pressure. that part doesn't change blade cutting exposure.
anyhow enjoy. a beautiful razor. I'd personally just use it then store it. man what a find!!!

Jason, no need to worry as that nick is insignificant. Go ahead with the shave as these razors are very nice shavers.

Thats not a GEM, its a Gillette...sorry, couldnt help it..:001_smile
Nice razor, really like the red case.
Use both sides, you wont even notice the nick
Enjoy!!!

Thank you all for the compliments. It's a 1921.

On a side note, I live in a community that was a former Dupont Factory town, so the house i live in was built in 1918. Its probably kind of stupid but i get a kick from shaving every moring in the same place that men have stood and shaved for the last 100yrs using a razor that they very well may have used.

I concur, I get the same feeling when I'm at my Aunt's house which has been in the family for over 100yrs.
