My first antique razors..

My friend picked these up at and estate sale for me... I think he paid about $4 each for them.

I'm not quite sure what they all are, but I'm looking forward to trying out the two with the ball ends. :w00t:

Well, now you've done it. You are hooked and won't be able to stop yourself:001_smile.

The fat handled Tech (the one all the way to the left) and I think the ball handled Tech (all the way to the right) have incorrect heads, but guess what...they'll shave crazy good. Also, the New Improved (the gold one in the middle) is really nice despite the cracked handle. It's a common problem.

Enjoy them. I wish I would run across estate sales like that.

Notice the Old Type head (with the Tech Fat-bar handle, far left) has the logo and "Made in USA" mis-stamped! It is offset to the left . . . such rarities make coins and postage stamps more valuable . . . why not razors, too?

The NEW with the Tech handle (far right) also has a Tech logo head, as you can see the remains of an etched Gillette logo.

The GEM Damaskeene is a great find - probably the smoothest of all the ASR Pat. 1912 variants.

All-in-all a very nice start to a vintage razor collection/rotation! Enjoy!

Well, I have to agree with "Live Oak"... now you've gone and done it! If not now, you will soon be hooked. You'll be spending a lot of hours "hunting".

All kidding aside, it's a lot of fun. These guys on this forum have been doing it a lot longer than me. It's only been about 7 months for me but searching for the vintage razors is a great hobby. Be careful how far you take this...
I got so involved that I remodeled my bathroom for this.

The New short comb with the ball end tech handle and cap makes a great combo. I created the same this same combo when I found myself with a spare New short comb head. Used it this morning. Great shave!

I'm still trying to figure out what everything is and so far I'm convinced that I have a 1961 Tech...

I put an Astra SP blade in it shaved just fine.

The next razor I believe I have identified correctly as a 1921 New Standard Gold.

And of course, there is the Damaskeene Gem, which I know nothing about. I guess I'll make a trip over to the SE forum and see what they can tell me. :001_smile Is there anything in my collection that I shouldn't shave with? Those open comb heads look like they are ready to eat whiskers and some skin too.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys!

Nice razors, even if two of them have the wrong head types (the two on either end of your first pic above). Like somebody else said already, they will all shave just fine. The gold New Improved probably isn't from 1921 as those had a slightly different knurling on the knob end. Check the date code list in the Wiki to see when yours was made. It is definitely from the 1920's though, so that's cool. The Gem Damaskeene is a very highly regarded razor and it's worth finding modern single-edge blades just to try it out. You can find single-edge blades at most convenience/drug stores in the US (Walgreens, CVS, Family Dollar, etc...)

The date code on the Tech is C-1 and not G-1 so I guess it's a '57 and not a '61. The serial number on the New Improved is 125248Z which I think makes it a 1921 model made in Canada if I'm reading the date and feature guide correctly.

I'm going to try the Gem tomorrow as I just went down to the RiteAid and picked up some Treet SE blades.

Fun stuff!
