My experience with Personna Med Preps

I tried some Personna Med Preps thanks to Toothpick's Blade exchange.

The first shave was OK, had some weepers, but the 2nd shave with it was horrible. Tore my face up.
I decided to just ditch it.

I'm not sure why this blade is so highly rated, I get better, BBS shaves with my Gillette Silver Blues.
Seems like it wears down quite fast.

Needs milk and a bidet!
I think I used a med prep a long time ago and had the same experience, wasn't impressed. I'll have to revisit them though now that my technique has improved.

I used to be surprised at how each blade give me a different result and how everyone's opinions are vastly different. But not anymore. Blades are the most subjective thing there is.

I would do laser hair removal on my face before I press a Bic DE blade to it again.......and yet i've read numerous posts how they are the best blade ever.

Just another case of YMMV, Chris. Blades are the poster child for the YMMV campaign, too!

+1 Wingnut, you and Toothpick speak the truth.

I decided to try Personna Lab Blues. I bought a five pack and really liked them. So I bought 100. Turned out to probably be different blades. The 5 pack blades are probably Personna Barber grade, not supposed to be as good as the Lab Blues. But the Lab Blues shave really rough for me. I am in a definite minority here with most folks preferring the 100 pack blades. I've been thinking about trying the Med Preps, but I don't want to buy 100. Yet where I can find small numbers, the blades and shipping are so much, I think I might just go ahead and buy 100. I got some blades I want to PIF, anyway. If I don't like the Med Preps, I'm sure there's lots of folks who will take them.

I just tried a Personna Med (blue wrapper, also thanks to Toothpick and the TGBE). Previously I had used a Feather and Astra SP, so I had a blade known for it's sharpness and a blade known for its smoothness to compare. When I first started shaving with the Personna (using a Slim in the #5 setting) I wasn't impressed right off, as it didn't seem as sharp as the Feather nor as smooth as the Atra. In fact, it almost seemed that the Atra was sharper. But as I continued through the second (XTG) and third (ATG) passes I started to notice the Personna was doing a really good job of mowing down my beard. And except for a weeper or two (one I know was my fault... sloppiness bit me), the resulting shave was as comfortable as the Atra and as close... maybe even closer than the Feather.
