What's new

My blades so far

So I've been wet shaving for about a month or now, not shaving every day, but at least a few times a week. I've been using derby blades mostly since I started (as I was advised it was one of the best starter blades) and Saturday I decided to try something different.
A good friend gave me (the better part of) a blade sampler, derby, dorco, percision, astra, and feather.
I decided to try the dorco and wow, it was interisting. It was very close shave, much closer than the derby, however shortly after I had some of the worst razor burn ever. My entire face stung all day. I decided to give it another go yesterday and though I had no razor burn, it was a horrible shave, and many spots no matter how much I "touch up", it is never clean.
I am thinking today I will try the percision or the astra. I'm excited to try a feather but I'm under the impression I should wait till I really know what I'm doing :)

Thoughts?

I think you will like the Precision blades a lot. I use them and they are my work horse blade. The Astra is another great blade, I find that the Astra SP is a little rough the first shave but afterwards is really good. You should also try the Astra SS, I think it's a bit better than the Astra SP.. YMMV applies here.

Glad to hear percision is a nice shave, after the fun experience with my dorco blade I was a bit shy to try another different blade.

Certainly you should develop your technique before you try something you're a little leery of using. That's the best advice I can give you. And in time, you'll be willing to try anything at least once, and without hesitation.

Oh, never forget that what works for me doesn't necessarily work for you or anyone else on earth. The fun of this is the journey!

The Precision blade is Israeli made at the same facility that the Crystals and Red IP's. And most individuals do find them to be a great middle of the road blade. Check the review section on razor blades for Precision,Crystals, and Red IP's.

I'm pretty comfortable with my technique now, obviouslly it is something that will alwayse improve, however, for now, I'm comfortable enough to try new things. My hesitation towards another new blade is simply the bad shave with the last new blade, and the fact that I have heard some bad things about percision. Everyone has different taste so I will give it a go later today.

Ah, then welcome, fellow traveler! Dive right in; the waters are fine! :thumbup1:

Hooray!

Tried the percision today and really really liked it. Great shave, very close, no irritation. Going to finish the blade off with a few more shaves, than give astra a try. I'm very tempted to dive into feather but I have so many other blades to try, I will wait.

Try it now. All the fear-mongering about this blade is pretty laughable. Almost like kids in a schoolyard. Yes, it's sharp. It's a razor blade after all. It's supposed to be sharp! Just pay attention to what you're doing (like you're doing now) and you'll be fine. Better sharp than too dull which really tears up your face. Then you can compare what you've used and will use to the Feather.

+1...Don't be afraid, the feather blades are very smooth. Slow deliberate strokes and you'll have a BBS :001_smile
