What's new

My best lather yet.. still learning. (pics)

I tried adding more water and took a little extra time in making the lather, more elbow grease basically. This is TOBS Jermyn St.

I eventually had to get away from telling good lather visually; good lather with MWF doesn't look like good lather with TOBS creams, for example. But, that does look pretty good.

Why in the name of god would you make so much later? Are you shaving your back?
Ah. You probably shave with a coat as thin as shown in this image? (German forum, don't worry about weird language issues.) Personally, the amount shown in this thread is about the amount I make for myself every time. For one thing there's lots of facial area to cover, but also if I make the coat thinner to the point where I can see the skin showing through, it dries far too quickly. A thicker coat keeps the hairs nice and moist, and keeps the razor moving without undue friction. Finally, don't forget that the lather in the bowl is probably not diluted any further by dunking the brush or whatever. If you were to collect all lather generated while shaving, the amount can get impressive quite quickly.

The cost of making the lather is so small. Why not make more and be on the safer side?

That's pretty much what I was going to post. I don't TRY to make that much, but if it ends up that way, I'm not concerned. In fact my bowl looked like that with Cella this morning. I'd rather have too much than too little :w00t:

So does it pretty much go unsaid that different soaps present their best lathers in different looks/forms? Looking at the lather presented, I'd have guessed that it wasn't quite ready- by looks (to my untrained eye) it seems dry and unslick. Having just recently gone through my own little saga of making lather worth using, everything I've made that looks that... thick?... dries quickly and doesn't provide me any glide.

At any rate, if it was good for you, it was good for you! Congrats on working it out :thumbup1:

The "safer" side? What danger would arise from not having enough lather?

I guess there's no particular reason not to make a cereal bowl full of lather. It just seems a little pointless to me.

Ah. You're assuming that the shaver would be too stupid or lazy to procure additional lather if the first batch ran out.

So everything having to do with shaving, especially on this forum is YMMV.

If the man wants to make loads of lather, who are you to decide what is best for him. There is no need to be rude and imply that anybody that makes more lather than you is stupid or lazy. That is not how we operate at B&B.

Personally I don't see the need in making lather 2-3 times per shave, I would rather just make enough once to last the shave. I disagree with you, but yet I wouldn't call you stupid for doing it that way if that is what works for you.

YMMV, after all.
