I tried adding more water and took a little extra time in making the lather, more elbow grease basically. This is TOBS Jermyn St.
Ah. You probably shave with a coat as thin as shown in this image? (German forum, don't worry about weird language issues.) Personally, the amount shown in this thread is about the amount I make for myself every time. For one thing there's lots of facial area to cover, but also if I make the coat thinner to the point where I can see the skin showing through, it dries far too quickly. A thicker coat keeps the hairs nice and moist, and keeps the razor moving without undue friction. Finally, don't forget that the lather in the bowl is probably not diluted any further by dunking the brush or whatever. If you were to collect all lather generated while shaving, the amount can get impressive quite quickly. Why in the name of god would you make so much later? Are you shaving your back?

The cost of making the lather is so small. Why not make more and be on the safer side?

The "safer" side? What danger would arise from not having enough lather?
I guess there's no particular reason not to make a cereal bowl full of lather. It just seems a little pointless to me.
Danger:
Nicks
Cuts
Weepers
Razor Burn
Ah. You're assuming that the shaver would be too stupid or lazy to procure additional lather if the first batch ran out.
