What's new

My 1st shave with my new Futur

I will just say one word. WOW!!!

My EJ DE89 is in the drawer now (sorry guy).

my shave started with shower. Put some Proraso preshave cream on in the shower. I think I am done with Eucalyptus. My new EJ fine brush and some AOS sandalwood oil. Lathered up some Proraso, as my sandlewood cream hasn't arrived. I did my WTG pass at 5. Feather stainless was the blade. Talk about as close to straight razor I have ever put to my face. Closest shave I have had with a DE. It did pull a little at 5, but I either blame my angle, or my lather. Don't think it was angle, as this razor seems to only cut at the sweet spot angle. I was less aggressive with my other passes, as I finished with a mild razor burn. For my first try, I am glad to know the potential with the Merkur Futur. Any advice or tips welcomed. Not sure I like Proraso anymore, at least with suck an aggressive shave. It was a soap and not a cream. Finished with sandalwood gel.

I love my futur, it's a big heavy razor. It was a learning curve for me because of the heft of the razor, but once I got used to it, it's one of my best shaves. I set mine at 2 to 3, 5 is a bit much for me but that's one of its strengths, it can be adjusted to your shave. Some guys love it wide open, some guys set it high for the first pass and tone it down for the later passes. You might want to tone it down till you get used to it but the best advise I can give you is let the razor door the work, no pressure other than the weight of the razor

I like the Futur. The weight is what drew me to it.
Nice and solid. Fits well in the hand.

I also like the sound it makes when the whiskers get cut.
A very satisfying razor.

The sound was the first thing I noticed. Almost made me think my angle or lather was bad. Felt like a pull, but didn't give me burn in those spots. Still have to learn the other passes with it in my neck and mustache area. That was a challenge, compare to my EJ DE89.

Get some glycerin in the local pharmacy, and add a bit to your Proraso lather.

I found that the "slipperiness" of the lather improved, and it was a bit more protective of my skin.

Or get a better soap -- Tabac and MWF are perennial favorites.

I actually was about to purchase some tonight, but wasn't sure how it affects the lather. No change? Thanks for the tip.

also how much is a bit? Haven't worked with the stuff. I asked the pharmacy where it was, and the asked me if I was looking for the suppositories. LOL! I guess they don't know of all the benefits of the product.
