Must resist. Brush!

Gents,

Since starting proper wet shaving, ive exclusively used silvertips, my trusty vulfix no 40 and my DR Harris E series silvertip (gifted by my father). Ive been curious about the 2 band badgers i read about, more particularly due to the "backbone" they offer. Apparently they are really soft too, with a hint of scratchiness (depending on the brush) which i dont mind, as i enjoy a good facial scrub.

Seen a few simpson ones online but im afraid to take the plunge at that price range so looking around i found Semogue! So the Semogue owners club 2 in cherry wood has me drooling, im so close to breaking down and purchasing it, however SWMBO might bash my head in with the no 40 should she find a 3rd brush in our bathroom ha ha!

So basically, this post is for those who own that brush, is she worth the plunge? im a cream only user who face lathers exlusively. I love my current brushes but i just wish for more scrubby like feeling with a touch of backbone.

Thank you for your time!

Absolutely worth it. While you're there get the SOC boar also. Two of the best brushes on the market IMO.

oh well then. i didnt last long. just broke down and purchased one.. :)

cherry oak handle !

will update this thread when i test it!

I'm quite certain you will like it. I myself own that and the Boar SOC version. Both fabulous brushes. I think you will be very satisfied with the backbone of the SOC 2 band!

It does have some scritch that comes with the scrubbiness, not an unpleasant amount though. Not in the realm of "scratch" I would say. The first few lathers breaking it in I would go a bit easy until it softens a little. Wipe it dry vigorously on a towel afterwards (don't mash it down hard, just use painting strokes), that should help soften the tips.

Nice - mine is in Cherry too. And I can only agree with what others have said here - it's a superb brush, and even though it might seem a bit pricey, I rate it a bargain.

i think its quite a bargain actually .. from what im reading its a hidden gem!

What I have learned over the time I have been on B&B is......

To SHMBO....

All brushes look alike as long as they have white handles

All razors look alike as long as they are sliver.

I only have 4 brushes and 2 razors as I only have 4 white handed brushes and 2 silver razors out on the counter.

It does not seem to matter if they change size (a little) every day. As long as there are only 4 white brushes and 2 silver razors visible..... I am safe

You do know that you can get another white handled (simposns) brush for what that wooden handled SOC will cost you :scared:

hahahaah that was a funny read! however my brushes are all different and she is wise!!! for she is an industrial designer!

I did see the simpson options but this one just came highly recommended all around

SO the SOC 2 cherry arrived as I mentioned and i used it today. On first impression I wasnt as blown away as i thought i would be, but apparently they have a breaking in period so ill wait before fully judging. Has nice backbone to it and the scritch was welcomed, cant wait for the tips to soften up.

it really is great for face lathering though i used it on the new speick cream ive been testing and it blew up on my face!! However so far my mini DR Harris brush is my favourite !

One downside though it noticed a bit of a smell to this brush when face lathering, is this normal?

Did you get the boar bristle or badger hair version?

If it is a boar bristle brush it will take some time before it breaks in. If it is a badger hair it should be great right out of the box

badger one. it was great for sure.. so there is no breaking in period for it then eh?

again though was a notable odd smell

I've never found a badger brush that needed to be broken in.

For some reason they do seem to get more enjoyable after they are used and they retain a little soap in them.

Lather it up with a strong scented soap like C&E Nomad or P.160. This should help "hide" the badger "aroma"

cream only guy, ill use a stronger smelling cream next time for sure, this new spieck is very very mild..

and yes i agree brushes get more enjoyable after a few uses i find, at least with my other 2 brushes .... which are also badgers but silvertips.
