Music and penmanship

What do you listen to when you're writing?
And then...

...There I was, practicing with an oblique nib holder with a Nikko G and Higgins Eternal Black Ink and some I had some Ska on Pandora. It wasn't working. It was too fast and I needed to be taking my time. But the other night I was listening to some near old school Acid House (Chemical Brothers for those wondering) and I was fine. Both are upbeat and all but the ska and writing did not work. Could it be the beats per minutes or the accented offbeat patterns? The walking base lines? The urge to sing a long?

I will have to try out some other stations and see if one really clicks.

I was listening to Lord Huron (album: Lonesome Dreams) while I wrote a letter today and didn't find it too distracting or anything. It's pretty mellow stuff, though. I like Chemical Brothers, but that's running/workout music for me.
