murker 38c barber pole

Yep - thinklonger, heavier HD. Top endis the same, there's more weight in the handle. Being a relative newbie with this plus an HD, I find I'm more prone to applying pressure with the HD. The 38c's extra weight means you tend to just rest it in the face and let it get on with it, which seems to be a good thing.

I had, and enjoyed one for awhile. I later found that the Vintage Gillette's out performed it by miles, so I sold the Merkur, as it sat unused on my shelf.

Love it. However in contrast to what others say, I find it easier to apply NO pressure with a shorter handle. Very comfortable razor, though, and forgiving.

The 38C has become my daily razor. I have a bit of a tremor, and the weight helps steady my hand. It is moderately aggressive, and I get BBS shaves with a 3-pass shave, WTG, XTG, ATG. The barber pole pattern on the handle provides a good grip, which can be a problem for me when I use smooth handles due to the slippery water that comes from my water softener.
I also use a '53 SS, which I hold by the end of the handle with my fingertips. The 38C I hold more like an artist holds a paintbrush balanced along the length of the handle.
I really want to get a 12C to also have the open-comb version.

This is my most used DE. Unless I'm traveling, I use a Fat Handle Tech. Big diff in the two I know. But I love the Merkur.

Merkur 38c is like most things in life.

Some folks swear by them....others swear at them.

Personally I think they are a great razor.....to each his own.
