Muhle r89 vs. EJ r89L - any preferences?

Ok, I am going to get one of these razors. I had a Muhle r89 and sold it. Dumb, I know!! Which one do you like? Which one would you get?

I actually started out looking at all of the EJ89 models as well, but have decided on the Muhle because I like the available handle designs better.

For the extra $9-10, this is the one that I have set my sights on:

Can't go wrong with either from the advice that I have been given here, so it just came down to a matter of handle preference for me.

Is the performance that much better with the EJ than the Muhle because of the handle weight?

YMMV. For me the lighter handle of the Mühle improves the balance. Some people like weight in the head and others in the handle. So there are people in both camps.

I have both and there really is very little difference in performance in my view. I get on well with both razors and have had no issues with the lined handle of the EJ even when wet and soapy.

You can't really go wrong with either model, probably comes down to preference on handle design and weight.

That's what I got, and that's where I got it. I love mine, but I've never used the EJ.

My comment on the performance factor is a reflection of my liking the slightly heftier feel of the EJ handle, and I suspect that it cleaves through my whiskers more effectively due to the extra weight. But I'm still relatively new to DE shaving (~6 months) and separating perception from reality is a work in progress. I think either razor would be a good acquisition.

I have the R89 also purchased from the location previously mentioned. I love it. I've only had it for 2 weeks or so, but I find myself using it more than my Futur or Red tip

My first DE was the Mühle R89. Still use it for travel (which means almost half of the time), and went to the open-comb R41 at home. I prefer the textured handle of these, and am so used to the weight and slightly head-heavy balance that I don't notice it anymore.

Also have the EJ DE89L and love the looks, but I do have issues with the grip being slippery at times. The balance is neutral to me, in that I feel the weight overall, neither favoring the head or the handle.

The opposite of the Mühle type of balance, in my collection, is one of Cooncat Bob's New heads with a Bullmastiff handle. Solid weight in the handle and a light head. Switch back and forth between it and the R41 and have to remember to let the razor do the work when I use the Bullmastiff.

I don't always shave with a #89 head, but when I do I prefer the heft and balance of the EJ Chatsworth Barley.
Stay shaving my friend....

My razor envy comes out with this one. The Barley is exquisite. Maybe someday I can find one on BST?

You probably won't find it on the BST. Never seen one there. Actually i think it's out of production now so if you want one you might want to see if you can still grab it for it's normal price before it goes through the roof.

Ok, thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I have a Muhle on the way! It should be here in a couple more days. :thumbup1:
